Aim of the game

The first player to move into the target space shown on the mission map or defeat the monster on that space, wins the game.

Building the game

In all HEROICA games, you can rearrange the board to create different missions. Before you start playing, build the sections of the board using the building instructions. Then choose one of the mission maps on the poster and put the sections together as shown. Put all the monsters and items in the right places.

Build the LEGO® Dice using the tiles shown in the booklet.

Starting with the youngest player, each player chooses a hero and takes the matching hero pack with 4 health on it. Place your hero on the mission start.

Components: Store, Heroes, Monsters, Items, Coffin, Space, Hero pack, Giant vampire bat, LEGO Dice.

LEGO tilt: The best way to pick up a LEGO piece is by tilting it before you lift it.

Playing the game

The youngest player goes first. Play then continues clockwise.

Moving heroes

On your turn roll the LEGO Dice and move your hero up to the number of spaces rolled.

  • HEROICA Shield: Move up to 4 spaces OR use your hero's Ranged skill.
  • Three: Move up to 3 spaces.
  • Two: Move up to 2 spaces.
  • One: Move 1 space.

Fighting monsters

If you fight a monster, roll the LEGO Dice again to find out what happens.

  • HEROICA Shield: Defeat the monster OR use your hero's Melee skill.
  • Sword: Defeat the monster.
  • Skull: Lose health equal to the monster's strength AND move back 1 space away from the monster.
  • Sword & Skull: Defeat the monster AND lose health equal to the monster's strength AND move back 1 space away from the monster.

Movement and fighting rules

  • If you end your move in a space occupied by another hero, move your hero forward to the first available space.
  • Pick up any items in spaces you move into or through and put them on your hero pack.
  • If you move into a space adjacent to a monster, you MUST end your move in that space and fight. You may not move diagonally.
  • If you defeat the monster, take it off the board and put it on your hero pack.
  • If you are adjacent to two or more monsters at the same time, choose which one to fight first. If you win, immediately fight the next monster.
  • If you start your turn in a space adjacent to a monster, do not move your hero this turn. You MUST stay in the space and fight. You may not fight diagonally.

Heroes

Your hero has a special Ranged or Melee skill that you may use if you roll a Shield.

  • Prince - Melee: Defeat the monster and move up to 2 spaces.
  • Wizard - Ranged: Defeat a monster up to 4 spaces away, even around corners.
  • Sage - Ranged: Pick up one item up to 4 spaces away without moving your hero.

Monsters

Monsters have different strengths.

  • Vampire Bat: Strength 1
  • Zombie: Strength 2
  • Vampire Lord: Strength 3

Health

If you lose all your health, you are temporarily defeated and must spend one or more turns healing. On your turn roll the LEGO Dice and restore health up to the number you rolled. If you roll a Shield, restore your full health. Roll once on each turn until you have restored your full health. Then roll and move your hero as normal on your next turn.

You may not heal in this way unless you have lost ALL your health.

Potions

You may use a potion at any time during your turn, but each potion may only be used once. After you use a potion, put it back in the box.

  • Life: Restore 2 health.
  • Defense: Prevent any loss of health this turn.

Coffins

If you move into a space with a coffin, you MUST end your move standing on it and immediately search it. Roll the LEGO Dice again to find out what happens.

  • Shield: Put the coffin back in the box AND take 1 gold from the store.
  • Sword: Put the coffin back in the box.
  • Skull: Lose 1 health AND move back 1 space. THEN put a vampire bat on the coffin and fight it immediately.
  • Sword & Skull: Lose 1 health AND move back 1 space away from the coffin.

Weapons and gold

On your turn you may buy weapons from the store for 3 gold each, and sell weapons back to the store for 2 gold each. Every weapon gives you an alternative skill that you may use if you roll a Shield. You may carry more than one weapon, but may not use more than one skill at a time.

  • Ax - Melee: Defeat ALL adjacent monsters.
  • Wand - Ranged: Defeat a monster up to 3 spaces away, even around corners.
  • Staff - Ranged: Restore up to 2 health.
  • Bow - Ranged: Defeat a monster up to 5 spaces away in a straight line.
  • Dagger - Melee: Defeat the monster and take 1 gold piece from the store.
  • Sword - Ranged: Move 1 space and defeat an adjacent monster.

Giant Vampire Bat and Monster Bar

The Giant Vampire Bat starts with 4 strength on its monster bar. It is defeated when ALL its strength is removed.

  • Shield or Sword: Remove 1 strength from the monster bar, THEN roll again and keep fighting.
  • Skull: Lose health equal to the giant monster's CURRENT strength AND move back 1 space.
  • Sword & Skull: First remove 1 strength from the monster bar, THEN lose health equal to the giant monster's CURRENT strength AND move back 1 space.

Winning the game

The first player to move into the target space shown on the mission map, or defeat the monster on that space, wins the game.

Keep items and defeated monsters on your hero pack.

Changing the game

Try building your own missions, thinking up exciting stories about the adventures of your heroes, or even changing the rules! The secret to changing a game is to only change one thing at a time. Collect and combine HEROICA™ sets to build bigger and more detailed missions — with more heroes to play, more monsters to fight, and more of the amazing world of HEROICA to explore!

Epic HEROICA

In Epic HEROICA play two or more missions one after another. The player who wins the most missions wins the game. If two or more players are tied, the player with the most gold at the end of the game wins.

  • At the start of each mission, restore your full health.
  • At the end of each mission, if you have the most defeated monsters on your hero pack, take 1 gold from the store. Keep any gold, potions and weapons on your hero pack for the next mission. Put all monsters and other items back in the box ready for the next mission.
  • If you are playing with multiple sets combined together, each artifact and "strength 3" monster counts as a victory point. When there are no more artifacts or "strength 3" monsters remaining, the player with the most victory points wins the game.

Fang of Fury

The Fang is a powerful relic. It may be kept between missions or sold for 2 gold. If you roll 'Shield' in a fight with a monster, you may choose to use the Fang as a melee skill. You defeat the monster and gain 1 health. You cannot use this to gain more than your full health. If you sell the Fang, put it back in the box.

Battle HEROICA

In Battle HEROICA one player controls all the monsters. Players take turns as normal, but the monster player must play last. The monster player wins the game by defeating two heroes, or defeating the same hero twice.

If you are the monster player, on your turn choose one of the monsters to move. Then roll the LEGO Dice and move the monster up to the number of spaces rolled.

  • If you roll 'Shield', move up to 4 spaces.
  • You may not pick up items. If you end your move in a space occupied by another monster or an item, move your monster forward to the first available space.
  • If you move into a space adjacent to a hero, you MUST end your move in that space and fight. You may not fight a defeated hero who is healing.

When fighting, roll the LEGO Dice:

  • Shield: Hero loses ONE MORE health than the strength of your monster AND hero moves back 1 space away from your monster.
  • Sword: Hero loses health equal to the strength of your monster AND hero moves back 1 space away from your monster.
  • Skull: Your monster is defeated.
  • Sword & Skull: Hero loses health equal to the strength of your monster AND hero moves back 1 space away from your monster AND your monster is defeated.
