  • 1 bottom part of game box (= chicken run with coop and moveable raven-fox counter)
  • 1 farmer
  • 4 chickens
  • 45 grains
  • 4 chicken cards
  • 1 set of game instructions

Aim of the game

Whoever reaches the coop with the most grains wins the game.

Hint: Before starting to play you should practice throwing the grains with the help of farmer Fred; place the chicken run in the center of the table and get the grains ready. One by one, place farmer Fred in front of you with the feeding ladle facing you. Place a grain into the round dip of the ladle. As shown, keep a firm hold of the feet of the farmer and with one finger pull the ladle downwards. When you let the ladle loose the grain flies through the air. First try to hit the chicken run and then a specific square.

Preparation of the game

Put the bottom part of the box (= chicken run) in the center of the table. Each player chooses a chicken, takes the chicken card of the corresponding color and places it in front of them. The chickens are placed on the roof of the coop.

Each player gets 10 grains, which they place as provisions on their chicken cards. Place one grain on each of the five squares showing a caterpillar, as shown. The worms have no other use in the game.

Place Rose Raven on the red line between the two first slats of the fence. Get farmer Fred ready.

If there are fewer than four players, the remaining material is kept in the lid of the game box.

How to play

Play in a clockwise direction. The player, who can crow "Cock-a-doodle-doo" the loudest, starts the game. If you cannot agree, the youngest player starts. Take a grain from your provisions and with the help of farmer Fred, fling it from any spot back into the chicken run. If it does not land on a square of the chicken run, take it back and try again.

Where did the grain land?

  • On an empty square? Your chicken stays where it is.
  • On a square showing a feather? Your chicken stays where it is. Move the raven one slat further along the fence.
  • On a square showing only flowers, one or more? You may move your chicken as many squares as there are flowers.
  • On a square showing one or more flowers and a feather? First move your chicken as many squares as there are flowers, then move the raven one slat.

Important moving rules:

  • In the first round the chicken can move on any of the four squares adjacent to the coop.
  • Then you can move your chicken in all four directions but never in a diagonal line.
  • Within a turn you can change the moving direction as you like.
  • Squares occupied by a chicken of another player are counted when moving a chicken. Your chicken, however, may never stay on an occupied square.

Collecting grains:

  • If you move across squares with grains on them, you can collect and keep them together with the provisions on your chicken card.
  • If your grain lands on a square occupied by a chicken, the player of this chicken gets the grain.

Then it's the turn of the next player.

The fox appears

As Rose Raven reaches the blue line on the fence the fox appears behind the fence. One by one all the chickens quickly have to get back to the coop. The same rules apply as above. The chickens, though, have to rush and have no time to collect grains. The feathers are of no importance on their way back home.

How do the chickens get inside the coop?

Your chicken can run through the front or side door or flutter through the window. As you reach the coop, any remaining flowers are not used.

Important: If a player, on their way back to the coop, is left without grains, their chicken is placed in the coop, where they wait for the others.

End of the game

The game ends when the last chicken reaches the coop. The player with the most grains on their chicken card wins the game. If various players have the same amount of grains the player whose chicken reached the coop first, wins the game.
