Soo-o-o-o, let's sta-a-art!
-
Shuffle the bonus cards deck and place it face down on the table.
-
Shuffle all but one of the "The Bear is Here!" cards with the tasks deck. Place this deck face down on the table.
-
Take the remaining "The Bear is Here!" card and place it on the bottom of the tasks deck.
Now to the point. Choose your drinks and snacks. You can use any drinks of course but the game is meant to be played with alcohol. You can't change your drink or snacks during the game.
Define the size of penalty drink that a player must drink if they refuse or fail a task.
Now imagine yourself an astronaut and finish all your urgent business, because you can't leave the room even to go to the WC.
You also can't change places with other players. In addition, you can't smoke.
It's my turn!
The most sober player is the first to go. When it is your turn, you must do the following:
- Draw a card from the tasks deck.
- Read the task carefully trying not to fall over.
- Decide if you will do the task or do not. If you refuse, you lose all of your bonus cards (put them back on the bottom of the bonuses deck). In addition, discard the task card and you must drink the penalty.
- If you decide to do the task and you succeed, you take a bonus card from the bonuses deck (keeping it face down in front of you). Also, save the completed task card; it counts as sober points at the end of the game.
- If you refuse or fail to fulfill the task, give this task card to the next player. They will gain 2 bonus cards if they succeed in such a difficult task. If they also fail the task, discard the card.
Card anatomy (as labelled in the rulebook): the number in the top corner of a task card is its Sober points; the picture is the card's Squirrel (illustration); the text is the Task.
Example task card shown in the rulebook: "Say eight long words in 30 seconds. Every word must contain more than 10 letters." — 10 sober points.
The Bear is Here!
If you draw this card, consider yourself lucky. You must say loudly "The Bear is Here!" and wait until all the players creep under the table. The last player to crawl under the table is given the Bear card, which is worth -5 points at the end of the game.
After the card has been given, you can say "The Bear has left!", allowing the other players to go back to their seats.
Bonus Cards
Keep your bonuses close to yourself and don't show them to anyone.
You can play a bonus card at any time. To do so, reveal the card, read it out and follow the instructions on it.
- Used bonus cards are placed on the bottom of the bonus deck.
- You can trade your bonus cards with other players or even exchange it with them for drinks or snacks.
Example bonus card shown in the rulebook (labelled "Drunk fish" in the artwork, type "Bonus"): "Choose any player and have a drink with him or her."
Sample bonus cards (printed on the rulebook's card sheet)
The rulebook's card sheet shows the following bonus cards. The small numbers printed on the cards are not explained in the text and are not transcribed. Several cards on the sheet are partly hidden under overlapping cards; only the legible text is given.
- "Name 10 countries which have blue color in their flag."
- "Drink, but rinse your mouth and gargle with it before swallowing."
- "Without using your hands, push a coin from the table onto a glass on the floor."
- "Say a sexy toast including the words "DesoxyRiboNucleoid" and "Butt"."
- "Take pictures in three different poses. The poses are chosen by other players."
- "Send the text "sorry, i scratched your car" to a number chosen by another player."
- "Draw a bruise around your eye so it looks like you have a black eye."
- "Pick a nickname for any player. All players must call this player by this nickname until the end of the game."
- "Choose a card from the discard pile and put it back on top of the deck."
- "Choose any player and have a drink with him or her."
- A card reading "Choose a player … They must damage a …" (text obscured on the sheet).
- A card reading "Take any player's phone and change its settings" (text partly obscured on the sheet).
- A card reading "Put on an item of clothing that … previously denied …" (text obscured on the sheet).
Winning
The game is over when the last Bear card has been drawn and resolved (it has left). The sober points are then counted, and the player with the most points wins the game.
Counting of points
- Each completed task is worth the number of points printed on it.
- Subtract 5 points for each Bear card you got (the one for being the last to crawl under the table).
- Add 1 point for each bonus card you still have at the end of the game.
Just do it!
If you have to break the main rules to complete the task (for example, you need to go away from the table) then do whatever is written at the card.
If you need someone to do something to complete a task, and that person refuses, you automatically succeed at the task.
Advice
- If someone gets a task to keep their mouth shut, it's high time for dirty tricks! Ask them a question, make them talk!
- Many cards tell you to make someone do something. If you find it hard to persuade them, you can use your bonus cards to bribe them!
- If you have a chance to complicate a player's task then do it!
- You can't refuse to perform another player's bonus card. But the special bonus canceling card can do it. Save it!
- Use your imagination! If you have to drink a shot without touching it with your hands, you can use something (or someone) else to touch it!
