Storage

Store the game accessories in the tray of the game box, as shown in the illustration.

Before the First Game

Printed pages 2 and 3.

  1. A real mountaineer plans the climb before setting out. So read this assembly guide before assembling the parts. First, assemble the climbing mountain correctly. Take one avalanche rail and hold it so that the numbered side faces you. Then take a snowball and attach it to one side of the rail. Then set this rail aside and take the next rails. Attach only one snowball to one side of a rail at a time. Take your time. Once the snowballs have been attached, they cannot be removed again.
  2. Once you are done, lay the game board in front of you on the table. Take avalanche rail number 1 and hold it so that the 1 faces you and the notches are on the upper side. Slide this rail into the matching slot of the game board. Rail number 1 goes into the top slot at the summit of the mountain. Insert the following rails in order (starting from the summit) into the game board, until all 13 avalanche rails are in place and you have reached the foot of the mountain.
  3. Once you have managed that, attach the remaining snowballs to the opposite sides of the rails.
  4. Finally, attach the 4 climbing points to the game board and to the stand, as shown.

Getting Ready

Printed page 4.

  1. Attach the stand to the back of the game board by aligning the climbing points and carefully pressing the stand against the game board, so that it stays in position with the help of the climbing points. Then place the game board together with the stand into the tray (see the illustration).
  2. Slide all the avalanche rails fully to the left.
  3. Place the Yeti in the top space at the summit.
  4. a. Each player chooses a climbing team and places their two mountaineers into the two spaces in the tent of the same color at the foot of the climbing mountain. b. Hang your mountaineers on the mountain by inserting their ice axes into the spaces. During the game, climbers are moved across the game board (the mountain) by inserting their ice axes into the spaces of the game board.
  5. Take the photo cards, shuffle them well and place them face down as a stack on the table. Depending on the number of players (see below), take the top cards from the photo card stack and lay them face up, next to each other, in the tray at the foot of the climbing mountain. Place the remaining cards next to the mountain as a draw pile.
    • 2 players = 2 cards
    • 3 players = 3 cards
    • 4 players = 4 cards
  6. Place the die in the tray as well.

Object of the Game

Printed page 6.

The newspaper is looking for the best Yeti photos for its newest issue, and the exciting race for the best photo begins. Quickly, the world's best star photographers set off with their climbing teams to track down the legendary Yetis. The aim is to climb the snowy mountain, find the Yetis and take the best photos. Whoever first collects 5 points with their photos and storms the summit receives the newspaper's commission and wins!

Playing the Game

Printed page 6.

Climb the mountain with your climbing teams and try to take the best Yeti snapshots. During a turn you carry out the following 4 steps:

  1. Look at the face-up photo cards and at the climbing mountain carefully, to plan your climbing routes. Where is the best chance for a Yeti snapshot?
  2. Roll the die and perform an action.
  3. Move one or both of your climbers.
  4. Take a photo if you can, to score points.

Who Starts?

The youngest Yeti fan begins. Play then continues clockwise.

On Your Turn

1. Plan your climbing route (printed page 6)

Look at the photo cards in the tray to find out where the best chances for a Yeti snapshot are. The pictures on the cards correspond to the pictures on the climbing mountain, so look closely. Good Yeti photos (red) are worth 2 points; blurred photos (yellow) are worth 1 point. Think carefully about which route you want to take up the mountain, so that you land on the Yeti spaces that match the photo cards.

2. Roll the die and see which action you must perform (printed page 7)

  • Two mountaineers: If you rolled the two climbers, you must move both of your climbers in this turn.
  • Yeti: If the die shows the Yeti, you may move it and insert it into any other free space. The Yeti can help you slow down the other summit climbers, spoil their photo chances, or stop them from reaching the summit. The Yeti blocks not only the space it is in, but also freezes the space directly in front of it. The Yeti can be turned in any direction. See "Climbing Rules" below.
  • Snowball: If you rolled the snowball, you trigger an avalanche! Move any avalanche rail as far as you can to release the avalanche. This opens and closes climbing spaces, and climbers and/or the Yeti may fall down.

Have Climbers Fallen?

Printed page 7.

Fortunately, the brave mountaineers are secured by a rope. If one of your climbers has fallen, its owner must rescue this unlucky climber on their next turn (see "Climbing Rules") and may not perform any other action. If both climbers of one team were pushed off the mountain by the avalanche at the same time, that player must, on their next turn, start again from the very beginning, and must start their climbing team from the tent at the foot of the mountain.

Note: If during play a climber or the Yeti tumbles off the game board without an avalanche having been triggered, it may simply be inserted back into its original space.

Has the Yeti Fallen?

Printed page 7.

If the avalanche caught the Yeti, put it next to the climbing mountain. Here it waits until it may reappear. The next player who rolls the Yeti symbol may take it and insert it into any free space in the mountain.

3. Move your climber (printed page 8)

Find a free space within reach of your safety rope. Move one of your two mountaineers there and insert its ice axe into the opening.

Climber's hint: Open spaces are dark blue and closed spaces are light blue.

Remember: If you rolled the two mountaineers, you also move your second climber.

4. Take a Yeti snapshot, if you can (printed page 10)

  1. If your climber lands on a space directly above a Yeti picture that is also shown on one of the photo cards, you may take that card! The number in the corner of the photo card shows how many points you score with this snapshot. If there are 2 cards for this Yeti scene in the tray (a sharp photo and a blurred one), you may take both cards.
  2. Finally, refill the empty photo card slot in the tray by drawing a new card from the stack and placing it face up. (If you took 2 cards with your snapshot, you must draw 2 new cards.)

Hint: If a new card placed in the tray shows a photo scene on which one of your climbers already stands, you must move that climber off this space on your next turn. Only on a further turn may you place the climber back onto this space and take this card.

Now the next player is up!

Climbing Rules

Printed page 9.

  • Rescuing a fallen climber: If one of your climbers has fallen, your first mission is to rescue it! Use your entire next turn to attach it back onto the mountain. You may neither roll the die nor perform any other action.
  • Never cross over: Your safety rope may not cross the rope of another player. So you must climb around that rope.
  • Frozen climber: If the Yeti is looking at your climber, you may not move that climber, because it is frozen with fright. You must wait until someone rolls the Yeti, either you yourself or another player, and places it in a different space. Only then may you move this mountaineer again.
  • Penalty for an avalanche: If you trigger an avalanche that makes the entire team (both mountaineers) of one player fall at the same time, you must hand over 1 sharp photo or 2 blurred photos as a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Tips for Summit Climbers

Printed page 9.

  • Plan your climbing route.
  • Move the avalanche rails to open or block spaces.
  • Avoid having both of your climbers in the same row. In case of an avalanche, both of them would fall down.
  • You can also use your climbers to thwart other players' photo chances or to block their way to the summit.

End of the Game

Printed page 11.

The game ends as soon as one player has collected enough Yeti photos for a total of 5 points AND has reached the flag space at the summit with one of their daring climbers. That player is the Superphotographer! They shout "Yippie, Yippie, Yeti" and win!

Note: If one of your climbers is already on the summit space while you score your last collection point, you must first move this eager summit climber off that space on your next turn. Only on a further turn may you place the climber back on this space to win the game.

If you want to spend more time with the Yetis, you can simply raise the point total for the best photos. HAVE FUN!
