96 numbered cards from 1 to 6 in 4 different colours (there are 4 copies of each card), score sheets, 1 pencil.
Object of the Game
Players try to make one of the 12 possible card combinations in order to mark the corresponding points. The winner is the player who has the most points after 12 rounds.
Combinations
Warning: cards that are strictly identical (same colour and same value) are not valid for creating a figure. For example, two red 6s and one green 6 make a pair, not a three of a kind; for series, two red 4s are worth 4 points, not 8. (fig. 5)
| Figure | Icon | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Série (Series) | — | A set of 1, 2, 3 or 4 cards of different colours and the same value; a series is worth the cumulative total of the corresponding points. (Example: one 2 is worth 2 pts; two 4s of different colours are worth 8 pts; three 1s of different colours are worth 3 pts; four 5s of different colours are worth 20 pts…) |
| Double paire (Double pair) | Two pairs | 2 pairs (a pair is made of 2 cards of different colours and the same value). |
| Brelan (Three of a kind) | Three cards | 3 cards of different colours and the same value. |
| Full (Full house) | Pair and three of a kind | Combination of a pair and a three of a kind. |
| Suite (Straight) | Five cards | 5 cards that follow each other in sequence, not necessarily of the same colour. |
| Carré (Four of a kind) | Four cards | 4 cards of different colours and the same value. |
| Couleur (Flush) |
Preparation
The players' score sheets must always be visible to the other players. The dealer changes every round and deals 5 cards to each player. The remaining cards are placed in a pile, face down, and form the draw pile.
Course of a Round
The first player is always the player seated to the left of the dealer. Players take turns in clockwise order. Each player tries to make the combinations on their score sheet that they still have to complete.
On their turn, the player chooses one of three options:
- Take the top card of the draw pile, then discard one card from their hand onto their own discard pile, in front of them, face up (fig. 1). Then it is the next player's turn.
- Take the top card of the discard pile of any other player, then discard one card from their hand onto their own discard pile, in front of them, face up (fig. 2). Then it is the next player's turn.
- Lay down their cards, announcing the figure obtained. The round stops immediately and each player notes one of their figures on their score sheet, or crosses out a figure of their choice that they have not yet made.
A player must always draw a card before discarding a card from their hand. A player cannot draw cards and lay down their hand in the same turn; they must wait for the next turn.
As soon as one player lays down their cards, the others must do so immediately, and the round is over.
Each player notes their result on their score sheet, or crosses out a figure they have not yet made and that suits them. It is mandatory to mark or cross out a different figure in each round. There are 12 rounds in total.
Once the scores are noted, all the laid-down and discarded cards are gathered up and placed under the draw pile. The player to the left of the previous dealer becomes the new dealer and deals 5 cards to each player for a new round.
End of Game
After the 12 rounds, the players count their points. Players who reach 52 points or more with their series (upper score line) mark a bonus of 40 points. Add the points from the series and any bonus to the points obtained with the figures on the lower line. The player who totals the most points wins the game.
(fig. 4: example of a score sheet at the end of a game and the point count: upper line total + bonus + lower line total = total result.)
Duration
About 30 minutes.
Examples (Figures)
- Fig. 1: On their turn, a player takes the top card of the draw pile and discards one card from their hand onto their own discard pile, face up.
- Fig. 2: On their turn, a player takes the top card of another player's discard pile and discards one card from their hand onto their own discard pile, face up.
- Fig. 3: A green 3, a red 3 and a yellow 3 make 9 points in the series 3 box. This player could also choose to mark the Brelan box instead.
- Fig. 4: Example of a finished score sheet. Upper line: 3 + 2 + 12 + 8 + 20 + 18 = 63; since 63 is more than 52, a bonus of 40 points is added, giving 103. Lower line: 10 + 15 + 20 + 30 + 50 = 125. Total = 103 + 125 = 228 points.
- Fig. 5: Examples of each combination, with the values printed under each set of cards: 4 + 4 + 2 + 2 (double pair); 6 + 6 + 6 (three of a kind); 4 + 4 + 6 + 6 + 6 (full house); 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 (straight); 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 (four of a kind); 1 + 2 + 3 + 5 + 6 (flush).
