What's in the Box
- 1 dice cup
- 5 custom dice
- 1 scoring table
- 20 betting cards (5 sets grouped by colour)
- 5 all-in/safe cards
- 128 chips (32 x 500; 48 x 1,000; 36 x 5,000; 12 x 20,000)
Aim of the Game
The active player rolls the dice without revealing the result. The other players try to gauge the final score, choose their betting cards accordingly and place their bets before the dice are revealed. Making the right assessment of the final score can win you a fortune. The active player must deliberate when to end his turn to either win big or lose it all. The player rolling a Wulong (5 dragons) or the player who accumulates the largest fortune wins the game.
Setup
- Place the basic all-in card into the middle of the table.
- Stack the 4 safe cards in order with 1 being on top and place them next to the basic all-in card.
- Place all chips next to these cards on the table (the bank).
- Each player gets a set of 4 betting cards of one colour and their starting cash of 7 chips (4 x 500; 3 x 1,000).
Betting cards
The four betting cards in each set are:
| Betting card | Final score | Odds |
|---|---|---|
| Revenge of the Tiger | Zero | 1:1 |
| Dance of the Crane | 500 – 5,000 | 1:1 |
| Path of the Panda | 5,500 – 10,000 | 1:2 |
| Rise of the Dragon | More than 10,000 | 1:4 |
Starting cash: 5,000.
Let's get started! The player who most recently won a bet of any kind begins by rolling the dice and is now the ACTIVE PLAYER. He takes the dice cup, the dice, and the scoring table.
How to Play
Each turn consists of 3 phases: ROLLING THE DICE - BETTING - REVEALING THE DICE. These phases are repeated until the active player finishes his turn voluntarily or has failed to score.
1. Rolling the Dice
The active player rolls all 5 dice, leaving the dice concealed under the dice cup. Then he peeks under the cup without revealing the dice to the other players (PASSIVE PLAYERS). Stacked dice may only be moved after the dice have been revealed in phase 3 (Revealing the Dice).
2. Betting
After the active player has rolled the dice, it is now the passive players turn to try to gauge the final score based on the active players reaction. Keep in mind: you always bet on the final score. In the initial betting phase each passive player must secretly choose a betting card, place it face down onto the table and place at least the minimum bet onto their betting card. The minimum bet is based on your current fortune as shown in the table. You are always free to place more chips than the minimum bet. In the case of further betting phases during the active players turn passive players may:
- raise their bets to their liking (place more chips on their betting card).
- pass once or several times.
passive players may not:
- switch their betting cards or play additional betting cards.
- remove chips form their betting cards.
| Fortune | Minimum bet |
|---|---|
| up to 9,500 | 500 |
| 10,000+ | 1,000 |
| 20,000+ | 2,000 |
| 30,000+ | 3,000 |
| 40,000+ | 4,000 |
| 50,000+ | 5,000 |
All-in bets
- Only possible in the initial betting phase.
- Each passive player may choose to go all-in should his fortune be equal or less the current all-in limit shown on the all-in card.
- The passive player must place his betting card next to the all-in card on the table.
- The passive player's remaining chips must all be placed onto this betting card.
- The passive player must announce to all players: »all-in«
If you win your bet at the end of the active players turn, the odds of the current all-in card replace the odds of your betting card.
All-in card
The all-in card shows the all-in limit and the all-in odds. In the base game the all-in limit is 1,000 and the all-in odds are 1:10. The two lower entries on the card (6,000 and 1,000) are relevant only for the Wulong expansion »Chow's 11«.
3. Revealing the Dice
When all passive players have placed their bets, the active player reveals the dice. If the dice are stacked, put the top dice down without turning them. The active player has either rolled scoring dice or he has failed to score.
Scoring dice
Consult the scoring table for scoring combinations. At least one scoring dice or scoring combination must be present.
- The active player must select at least one scoring dice or scoring combination to lay aside.
- In the case of a scoring combination all dice involved must be selected and laid aside.
- The active player may now decide whether:
- to finish his turn voluntarily or
- to continue rolling the remaining dice (which he has not laid aside already).
Example: Feng lays a tiger and a dragon aside (score: 1,500 points).
By continuing rolling the remaining dice the three phases ROLLING THE DICE - BETTING - REVEALING THE DICE are repeated. If the last dice is laid aside, total the score and take the equivalent value of chips from the bank and place it into the middle of the table to keep track of the score. Then the active player may continue rolling with all 5 dice again.
No scoring dice present
The active payer has failed to score if he has rolled no scoring dice or scoring combination.
- The active player loses all points scored this turn (final score = zero).
- The active player's turn ends immediately.
- Chips already placed on the table (to keep track of the score) are returned to the bank.
Scoring table
The scoring table shows the scoring points of single dice and dice combinations. All dice combinations have to be achieved in one single dice roll.
For example, rolling three dragons in one go scores 10,000 points where as rolling three dragons in three separate dice rolls score just 3,000 points.
You win the game immediately if you achieve a »Wulong« (5 dragons in one go).
The scoring table is laid out by number of dice in one roll (1 die, 2 dice, 3 dice, 4 dice, 5 dice / JACKPOT). Each row is one die face. Dashes mean no score for that combination.
| Die face | 1 die | 2 dice | 3 dice | 4 dice | 5 dice (JACKPOT) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dragon | 1,000 | 2,000 | 10,000 | 50,000 | JACKPOT (Wulong, win the game) |
| Tiger | 500 | 1,000 | 2,500 | 10,000 | 20,000 |
| 3 | - | - | 3,000 | 15,000 | 30,000 |
| 4 | - | - | 4,000 | 20,000 | 40,000 |
The two rows below the table show five-dice combinations, printed as icons only (five dice in sequence): 5,000 and 10,000 respectively. The example below refers to a tiger straight scoring 5,000.
Note: the printed scoring table shows die faces as pictures, not words. The row labels above are taken from those pictures: the first row is the dragon face (1,000 for a single die), the second row is the tiger face (500 for a single die, as in the "tiger and a dragon = 1,500" example), and the remaining rows show the pip faces 3 to 6. The labels "Dragon" and "Tiger" are the transcriber's reading of the icons.
End of the turn
The active player's turn ends when he voluntarily finishes his turn or he has failed to score.
- The active player collects his final score in chips from the bank.
- Each passive player with betting cards matching the final score reveal their betting card, collect their winnings (chips x odds) and their bets.
- Each passive player losing their wager have to place their bets onto the top safe card.
- All passive players collect their betting cards.
If the safe card limit has been reached or exceeded (indicated by the number of players on the card) the safe is closed.
- Return all chips equivalent to the safe's limit to the bank.
- Surplus chips are placed onto the next safe card.
- Flip the safe card to its all-in side and place it on top of the all-in stack.
Now it is the next player's turn to become the new active player and to roll the dice.
End of Game
The game ends when either:
- a) A player rolls a Wulong (5 dragons in one go), he wins immediately.
- b) A players fortune reaches 60,000 or more at the end of a turn. The biggest fortune wins.
- c) The last safe is closed. The biggest fortune wins.
Run out of chips? No worries, just wait until it is your turn to be the active player and roll the dice to gain new chips. However, you can also barter for chips with the other players or even accept presents.
Example
1.) Rolling the dice. Feng is the active player. He rolls the dice and peeks under the dice cup to check his result without revealing the dice to the other players.
Feng thinks to himself, »Nice! A tiger straight. What a great start to this turn!«
2.) Betting.
a) Mr. Wu is convinced that Feng will fail to score this turn. Therefore, he chooses to play the betting card »Revenge of the Tiger« (final score = zero) and places his opening bet of 1,500 on top.
b) »Was there a flicker in his eye?«, Lei Lei is sure she saw one. It looks like he is going to score big. Therefore, she selects the betting card »Path of the Panda« (final score = 5,500 – 10,000). Lei Lei's fortune exceeds 20,000, hence she must place a minimum bet of 2,000 on top.
3.) Revealing the dice. Feng reveals the dice. The tiger straight scores 5,000 points! Feng pushes his luck and decides to continue rolling the dice. Since all 5 dice have scored, the bank provides 5,000 points in chips to keep track of his score.
4.) Rolling the dice. Feng continues rolling all 5 dice. Again, he peeks under the dice cup to check his result.
5.) Betting.
a) Mr. Wu is worried. It seems that Feng may score after all. Therefore, he passes raising his bet.
b) Lei Lei feels confident that she has chosen the right betting card and raises her bet by 500.
6.) Revealing the dice. Feng reveals the dice: 2 dragons which score another 2,000 points. The other dice do not score. Feng is happy with his result and does not want to risk his winnings by continuing to roll the remaining 3 dice. He finishes his turn voluntarily.
End of the turn:
a) Feng collects his final score of 7,000 (5,000 + 2,000) from the bank.
The safe card limit is exceeded. For 3 players the limit is set at 15,000. The safe already contains 14,000 of previous turns. Once Mr. Wu's lost bet of 1,500 is added the safe has to be closed.
b) Mr. Wu loses his wager. He has to place the chips from his betting card onto the top safe card. (Final result = zero)
c) Lei Lei reveals her betting card which matches Feng's final score. She collects her winnings: 2,500 x 2 (chips x odds) = 5,000 from the bank. The chips on her betting card (2,500) remain hers. Final result = 5.500–10.000. Odds are 1:2.
Closing the safe:
1.) Mr. Wu flips the safe card over and places it on top of the all-in stack.
2.) He returns the safe card's 15,000 to the bank.
3.) Then he places the remaining 500 onto the next safe card.
