List of Parts

  • 1 Word Shield used by the Wordmaker to hide a secret word of three or four letters.
  • 1 De-Coding Board used by the Wordbreaker to find the secret word and by the Wordmaker to give clues to the Wordbreaker.
  • 1 Set of Letter Tablets, approximately 560 International Letter Tablets, used to make and break the secret word.
  • 1 Letter Tray to store all the letters.
  • 1 Set of Key Pegs, approximately 20 each black and white pegs, used by the Wordmaker to give clues to the Wordbreaker during play.
  • 1 International Word List containing words of three and four letters as a simple guide for both players.

How to Play

Players agree to use a 3 or 4 letter word either from the word lists provided or the words contained in a specific dictionary. The Wordmaker secretly places this word in the Word Shield and hides this from the Wordbreaker. The Wordbreaker then attempts to duplicate the secret word by placing rows of Letter Tablets on the De-Coding Board starting at row 1. At the end of each row, the Wordmaker gives clues using the black and white Key Pegs. An agreed time limit may be set for each row.

Black Key Peg: A Black Key Peg is placed in any of the four Key Peg Holes for each Letter Tablet that is both the same letter and is in the same position as one of the letters in the Secret Word.

White Key Peg: A White Key Peg is placed in any of the four Key Peg Holes for each hidden Letter Tablet which is matched by letter but not position by a Letter Tablet placed by the Wordbreaker.

For example: 1 White Key Peg is placed if one Letter Tablet marked "E" is hidden and the Wordbreaker has placed two or more Letter Tablets marked "E" in the wrong position.

Vacant Key Peg Hole: A Vacant Key Peg Hole is left for every Letter Tablet placed by the Wordbreaker that is incorrect.
