- 4 double-sided terrain boards (easy side / difficult side)
- 69 tiles: 4 "entrance" tiles, 45 "enclosure" tiles (15 green "grass", 15 brown "vivarium", 15 blue "water"), 20 "path" tiles
- 40 visitor pawns (10 red, 10 blue, 10 yellow, 10 green)
- 1 bus pawn
- 2 drawstring bags: one for the 65 enclosure and path tiles, one for the visitor pawns
Note: the printed component list calls the 65 enclosure and path pieces "cards" ("cartes"); everywhere else in the rules they are called tiles ("tuiles"), and the pieces are tiles.
Setup
- Each player takes a board and one entrance tile.
- Path and enclosure tiles and visitor pawns are placed in their respective bags.
- Each player places their board in front of them, on the side of the chosen difficulty, and places their entrance tile(s). Each entrance tile must have at least one side adjacent to the edge of the board.
- The youngest player receives the bus pawn and places it in front of them.
- Draw as many tiles as there are players plus one. Place these tiles in the centre of the table.
Playing the Game
Play proceeds clockwise, starting with the player who has the bus.
On their turn, each player performs the following actions:
- They choose one tile from those placed on the table.
- They place it on their board, following the placement rules below.
- They perform, if they wish, the action shown on that tile.
At the end of the turn, if no action was taken with the bus, the bus pawn is given to the player on the left and a new turn begins. Draw as many tiles as there are players and place them next to the remaining tile. The player who has the bus starts the new turn.
Tile Placement Rules
A tile may be placed, in any orientation, on empty spaces of the player's board, without extending beyond the board (and without covering an obstacle when playing with the front side of the boards).
The path tile has an additional constraint: it must be placed against another path tile.
Note: the entrance tile is considered a path tile.
Tile Actions
Each tile shows an icon that proposes an additional action. When a player chooses a tile, they may perform the action proposed by the icon on the tile they chose:
- Visitors (draw): The player draws 1 (or 2) visitor pawn(s) from the bag and places them where they wish on empty spaces of their path tiles. A space can hold only one visitor pawn. If all spaces of their path tiles are occupied, they return the visitor pawn(s) to the bag.
- Visitors (move): The player moves 1 (or 2) visitor pawn(s) already placed on their board to other empty space(s) on their path tiles.
- Enclosure (move or swap): The player may move one of their enclosure tiles to another position on their board, OR swap the position of two enclosure tiles of the same shape. (Note: the action of the moved tile is not performed again.)
- Bus: The player takes the bus and places it in front of them. They will play first during the next turn of play. (The bus pawn does not pass to the player on the left at the end of the turn.)
End of the Game
As soon as a player can no longer place a tile on their board, the game ends for that player, but the other players continue to play.
When all players can no longer place a tile, the game ends and the points are counted.
Scoring
Each visitor pawn adjacent (not diagonally) to an enclosure tile earns one point. A single visitor pawn can therefore earn several points if it is adjacent to several enclosure tiles.
Example: Pawn A earns 2 points: 1 for the green "grass" enclosure tile and 1 for the blue "water" enclosure tile. Pawn B earns 2 points: 2 for the blue "water" enclosure tile.
The player with the most points wins the game!
Expert Variant
The colour of the visitor pawns is used. Each visitor has a preferred type of animal:
- blue visitors prefer the animals of "water" enclosures,
- yellow visitors prefer the animals of "vivarium" enclosures,
- green visitors prefer the animals of "grass" enclosures,
- red visitors have no preference.
When counting points, a visitor placed next to a space containing one of its preferred animals is worth 2 points instead of 1:
- 1 blue visitor placed next to a "water" tile = 2 points,
- 1 yellow visitor placed next to a "vivarium" tile = 2 points,
- 1 green visitor placed next to a "grass" tile = 2 points,
- 1 red visitor placed next to any tile = 2 points.
