Setup
Before setting up the game, shuffle the components of this expansion together with the matching components of Western Legends. Some components of this expansion are used only when playing with certain other Western Legends expansions:
- characters (when playing with High Stakes);
- story cards (remove the story card "История повторяется" (History Repeats) if you are not playing with High Stakes);
- event cards (when playing with High Stakes);
- event markers (when playing with High Stakes);
- train robbery cards (when playing with High Stakes);
- frontier tokens (when playing with High Stakes);
- Man in Black cards (remove cards 16, 20, and 21 if you are not playing with High Stakes);
- bandit cards (when playing with the bandit cards from the expansion titled «Всякая всячина» on the Russian sheet; the sheet does not give the English title of that expansion).
When preparing the store counter and the trading post (when playing with High Stakes), add the new item cards to the item cards already present, and follow the usual setup instructions.
If both the store counter and the trading post are completely full, shuffle all the legendary items together and place the resulting deck face down next to the game board. Otherwise, place the legendary items deck in an available spot.
Story Cards
This expansion includes story cards with a new condition printed on the card: end your movement on a territory with an event marker or a frontier token. These story cards are used only when playing with High Stakes.
Wild Bunch of Extras also adds 5 new story cards to the game, with the same kind of conditions as in the previous products of this series. These story cards are compatible with all variants and expansions of Western Legends.
Calling Card Variant
For this variant, shuffle the calling cards and reveal 1 random card during setup. This card describes a special condition that applies to the whole game.
Calling cards add or change 1 or more rules, which significantly affects player strategy. If the effect of a calling card contradicts the usual Western Legends rules, the calling card takes priority.
Gang/Lawmen Card Variant
For this variant, place the double-sided Gang/Lawmen cards next to the game board during setup.
A player may perform the recruit action while in one of the following locations:
- Sheriff's or Marshal's Office. A Marshal player may perform the recruit action in the sheriff's or marshal's office by spending $20 and taking 1 Lawmen card. They place it next to their personal player board and follow the rules described on the card. No player may have more than 1 Lawmen card.
- Renegade Camp. A Wanted player may perform the recruit action in the renegade camp by spending $20 and taking 1 Gang card. They place it next to their personal player board and follow the rules described on the card. No player may have more than 1 Gang card.
Gang card (the card is titled «Банда»):
- Discard this card when you become a Marshal.
- At the start of a shootout, take 1 poker card.
- At the start of an arrest attempt made against you, take 2 poker cards and discard this card.
- If you lose a shootout, cancel all wounds you would receive, and discard this card.
Lawmen card (the card is titled «Законники»):
- Discard this card when you become a Wanted player.
- At the start of a shootout with a bandit, a free prospector, or a renegade, and also when attempting an arrest, take 1 poker card.
- At the end of your movement, you may discard this card to move up to 3 territories.
- If you lose a shootout, cancel all wounds you would receive, and discard this card.
Translator's note: the printed corner values on these cards show $30, $30, $10, $10, $20, $20, $20, $20 in a row on the sheet. The sheet's rules text gives the recruit cost as $20, and that is the cost transcribed above. The sheet does not say which card carries which printed value.
Sheriff Card Variant
This variant adds sheriff cards that give the sheriff in play an individual identity. For this variant, shuffle the sheriff card deck and reveal the top card. It describes the differences between the current sheriff and the base sheriff. The sheriff follows all the usual rules, except those described on the revealed sheriff card.
If the sheriff loses a shootout, discard the revealed sheriff card and reveal a new one in its place. Apply the rules of the new card until the sheriff loses a shootout again.
If the sheriff deck runs out of cards, shuffle the discarded sheriff cards to form a new sheriff deck.
NOTE: A player still receives 1 wound and loses all Wanted points, regardless of which sheriff arrested them.
Example sheriff card shown on the sheet: Ranger (Рейнджер). Moving because of a story card or because of the action on the poker card «Manhunt» (облава), the sheriff may move to 0-2 additional territories. If the Wanted player wins a shootout against the sheriff, they gain 1 LP.
Sheriff card titled «В городе новый шериф» ("A New Sheriff in Town"), shown with a handcuffs illustration. The sheet shows only the title for this card, so no further text is transcribed for it.
Man in Black
Man in Black cards from this expansion are used only in a 2-player game. If you are playing without High Stakes, remove cards 16, 20, and 21 from the deck, as they are associated with High Stakes components. To add the new Man in Black cards to the game, shuffle them into the deck of base Man in Black cards and follow the usual rules for a 2-player game.
Man in Black card 18 (the card's flavour quote is omitted):
- The first player places the Man in Black in the doctor's office in Red Falls.
- Roll 1 prospector die.
- If the die shows the symbol printed on the card, place a ruin token in the doctor's office in Red Falls and return this card to the box. This location cannot be used for the rest of the game.
- Otherwise, the Man in Black gets 1 LP, and every player in Red Falls receives 1 wound.
Translator's note: the card's symbol condition is pictured as a black icon before the instruction "place a ruin token". The sheet does not spell out the die-face in words, so "the symbol printed on the card" is used here as the literal reading.
Ruin Tokens
In Wild Bunch of Extras, the Man in Black gains the ability to destroy certain locations on the game board. When this happens, place a ruin token on the location indicated on the Man in Black card. For the rest of the game, no participant may use a location that has a ruin token.
Unique Events
This expansion adds unique events that supplement the events from High Stakes. The cards for these new events are blue, and each one has its own marker. Unlike other event markers, these markers have unique properties.
When you draw a unique event card from the deck, place its matching marker in the location indicated on the card, and place the card next to the board as a reminder for all players.
Grizzly (Гризли) event card:
- Add the Grizzly to Mountain Pass A.
- Take 3 combat cards for the Grizzly. At the start of a shootout with it, you receive 1 wound and discard 1 random poker card. Reduce the value of the card you played against the Grizzly by 2.
- If you win, gain 3 LP. Otherwise, move this token to any other mountain pass.
Settler (Переселенец) event card:
- Add a settler to the railroad station in Spikes View.
- Action: Acquire this token.
- Reaction: After performing a frontier action, discard this token to double the reward of the frontier token.
Legendary Items
Legendary items first appeared in The Good, the Bad, and the Handsome. The new items follow the same rules.
Among the legendary items are mounts, weapons, and possessions. The usual rules that apply to all items also apply to them. However, legendary mounts and legendary weapons cannot be upgraded. Some legendary items grant LP at the end of the game, in the same way as upgraded mounts and weapons.
If a player acquires a legendary item while already holding 3 possession cards, they may discard 1 of those possession cards to free up a space on their player board for the legendary item. When a player discards a legendary item, they shuffle it into the legendary items deck.
Legendary items on the sheet:
- Lucky Coin (Счастливая монета). The card shows no type label on the sheet. Reaction: After losing a gambling game, flip the coin. If you guess correctly, gain $10 or take 1 poker card.
- Saber (Сабля), a weapon. Win a shootout: gain 1 LP. Lose a shootout: lose 1 LP.
- Molasses (Патока), a mount. Once per turn, you may discard a poker card of value 10 or higher to gain 1 action.
Translator's note: the Molasses card also shows a coin in its top-left corner marked 1 LP and a circled 2 in its top-right corner. The sheet does not explain these printed values, so they are not transcribed as rules here. The English name "Molasses" is the translation of the Russian «Патока».
