Santa
Santa is trying to deliver his presents. Every night phase, this player will pick a player and give them a gift (real gifts could be fun, but not necessary). If Santa can deliver a present to every remaining player before his is killed/stopped (c'mon guys, killing at Christmas is a bit much), then Santa wins and Christmas is saved. An alternate way to play with Santa is to have Santa pick a child/Villager each night to save to stop Krampus from ruining Christmas. Santa is on the Villager's side.
Krampus
Krampus is trying to ruin Christmas! Every night Krampus kills/kidnaps a kid (which can be any character-he doesn't care). He usually only takes the naughty kids, but he's done with the old ways and just wants to ruin everything! During every night phase, this player will choose a player to kill/kidnap. If Krampus manages to kill/kidnap all of the players, he wins and Christmas is ruined! Krampus is on his own side.
Naughty
The Naughty kid is always trying to get away with things. This time, he's trying to steal everyone's presents! This character must be played with the Nice character. In this version of the game, the Naughty kid is trying to steal other player's presents given to them by the Nice kid. Each night, the Naughty kid chooses a player and if they have a gift, he steals it, if not, he gets nothing and tries again the next night. If the Naughty kid manages to steal everyone's presents, then the brat wins! Naughty is on his own side.
Nice
The Nice kid is trying to make sure the Naughty kid doesn't ruin everyone's Christmas. This character must be played with the Naughty character. In this version of the game, each night, the Nice kid gives a present to another player. If the Nice kid manages to give everyone a gift, then she wins! Nice is on the Villager's side.
Elf
The Elf works with Santa and loves children just as much as he does. The Elf is a builder and uses her skills to construct a toy in the shape of a child. The Elf can save one child/villager from an evil character once during the game. An alternate way to play is to have Santa needing to find his Elf and Reindeer to deliver presents. Each night Santa looks for the characters by asking the identity of one player. If he locates both before they are killed/taken away, then Santa, the Elf and Reindeer all win. The Elf is on the Villager's side.
Reindeer
Reindeer are beautiful creatures that can fly and help Santa to deliver presents all over the world....but they can't talk. This player may only speak in Reindeer sounds (whatever that is) while making antlers on the sides of their head using their hands. See the Elf card description for additional gameplay for the Reindeer. The Reindeer is on the Villager's side.
Spriggan
Spriggan is a wise tree elemental that has seen what the Villagers do every Christmas to her brothers and sisters. Chopping them down and displaying them in their homes. It's barbaric! One player should be given something to symbolize a tree at the beginning of the game. They should keep this hidden. Each night this player will search for a player that has a tree in their home. If she chooses a player that doesn't have the tree, she moves on. If she find the player with the tree, she kills that player and displays them in her forest. Kind of gruesome. She will also win the game. Spriggan is on her own side.
Transcription note: the source text reads "thathas", a run-together of "that has"; it is corrected to "that has" here.
Esteru
Esteru is kind of like Santa in that he wants to make children happy, but he is also a woodcutter. This character must be played with the Spriggan character. His ultimate thrill would be to chop down a Spriggan. Each night, this player searches for the Spriggan to chop down by choosing a player. If he finds her, Esteru kills the Spriggan and she is no longer a danger in the game. Esteru is on the Villager's side.
Winter
Winter is ice cold. No literally, she's pretty much ice. She hates seeing people warm, so each night Winter chooses a player to have the Moderator drop a piece of ice down the back of their shirt. This is pretty cruel, but she loves every second of seeing someone with a chill. Winter is on the Villager's side.
Gryla
Gryla is a giantess that loves to eat naughty children. This character must be played with the Naughty character. Each night, Gryla searches for the Naughty kid to eat. She won't be satisfied until she breaks every bad bone of his body between her teeth (a wonderful image). Each night, this player will ask about one player's identity. She moves on until she finds the Naughty child. If she finds the Naughty child, Gryla wins and has a full stomach! Gryla is on her own side.
Boreas
Boreas is the Greek God of the North Wind. He's kind of a jerk and likes to blow other characters to far off lands. At any point during the game (day or night and this player's identity will be revealed in the process), Boreas can decide to get rid of two players for a full day and night phase. The players he chooses will be blown away by the North Wind and must sit out the next day and night phases and will not play or vote. After the phases are over, they return to the village and their play returns to normal. Boreas is on the Villager's side.
Yeti (Bonus Card for the First 225 Backers)
The Yeti is a pretty dangerous creature. This character must be played with the White Wolf character. The Yeti is a loner and lives peacefully in his cave in the mountains near the village. He heard the howling of the White Wolf while it kills off the Villagers and decided he was to be the only ivory beast in the land. Each night, this player searches for the White Wolf by asking the identities of player's characters. Once the Yeti finds the White Wolf, the game essentially ends and it's a battle between the two creatures. Only one will be victorious. Each player will flip a coin. The first player to get five heads in a row wins the game! In the event of a tie, the first person to get a tail, loses. The Yeti is on his own side, but will vote with the Villagers.
The closing paragraph below is the designer's final note on the character cards; it is not a separate rule section in the source.
Remember, these are just some ideas and all of the other character cards from previous expansions can be played along with these cards as well. Although, I don't think it'd be very festive for a Werewolf to eat Santa. That's the fun of Werewolf though. You decide the best game for your party of players! :)
