Components

What you need to play:

  • 5 dice for each player (preferably in a different color for each player).
  • 5 Son Cards.
  • Notepad to keep score.

Object of the Game

To collect a set of 5 dice of the same number or in sequence (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) before any other player.

Players

2 to 5 players.

How to Play the Game

  • Give each player a set of 5 dice.
  • Shuffle the Son Cards and deal each player a card.
  • The Player with the lowest numbered Son Card always goes first in the round.

Turn

During his/her turn, a Player rolls the 5 dice (his Supply) and may set aside any dice as Collected.

The Player may continue to roll any dice that are not Collected (on that turn) as long as he/she rolls at least one die with the same number as the Element on their Son Card.

If he/she fails to roll the Element number, then his/her turn is over and the Player with the next lowest Son Card rolls his/her dice.

End of Round and Scoring

Once a player has Collected all five dice listed on his/her Son Card or captured a Dragon (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), the remaining players add up the total value of the dice they have Collected and tally those points.

You want to have the lowest point total each round.

The Son Cards are then passed to the left and the next round begins.

Note: the sheet's introduction also says the players add "the penalty number at the bottom of the card" to their total. The scoring section does not mention it. Both are reproduced as printed.

End of Game

The winner is the player who has the least amount of points after 5 rounds.

In the event of a tie, the last player to hold the First Son card wins the game.

The Sons' Unique Abilities

The First Son (Water) – May roll all 6s again. Anytime, the First Son rolls a 6 he may re-roll that 6. If he then rolls a 1 (the Element Number), then he can set it aside and roll all remaining dice in his Supply. Also, if he rolls another 6 then he may re-roll that die.

The Second Son (Wood) – If he rolls a 6, he may change any (his or any other player's) Collected 2 (set aside) to any number other than 2.

The Third Son (Fire) – For each two 6s rolled, he may collect one 3 (convert one of the 6s into a 3).

The Fourth Son (Earth or Death) – For each 6 rolled, he may return any (his or any other player's) one Collected die to that owner's Supply.

The Fifth Son (Metal) – If he rolls two 6s, he may trade his card and dice (Supply and Collected) with any other player. He now takes his turn in proper order as dictated by his new card and the other player takes the turn of the Fifth Son.

Example of Game Play

The First Son (Player One) starts the game rolling all five of his dice of his Supply. He rolls 1, 1, 3, 4, 4 and sets aside the two 1s. He then rolls the remaining three dice and gets 1, 4, 5. The First Son sets aside the 1 and rolls the remaining two dice obtaining a 3 and a 6. The First Son failed to roll a 1 and normally his turn would be over, however, his unique ability allows him to re-roll all 6s. He rolls one die (for the one 6 rolled) and gets a 1. The First Son sets aside the 1 and rolls the remaining die (you always get to roll again if you roll the Element Number on your card). He rolls a 2 and his turn is now over. Collected: Four 1s.

The Second Son rolls all five of his dice and gets 1, 2, 2, 3, 3. He sets aside the 1, the two 2s and one 3. As he rolled a 2, he can roll the remaining die again. The Second Son rolls a 6 and uses his unique ability to change one of his collected 2 into a 4. He now needs a 5 to capture the Dragon. The Second Son's turn is over. Collected: 1, 2, 3, 4.

The Third Son rolls all five of his dice and gets 2, 3, 5, 6, 6. He sets aside the 3 and uses his unique ability to collect one addition 3 (converting one of the 6s into a 3). The Third Son then rolls the remaining three dice and gets 1, 4, 5. As he failed to get any 3s, his turn is over. Collected: Two 3s.

The Fourth Son rolls all five of his dice and gets 1, 4, 4, 6, 6. He sets aside the two 4s and uses his unique ability to return one of the First Son's 1s (to the First Son's Supply) and the Second Son's 2 (to the Second Son's Supply). The Fourth Son then rolls the remaining three dice and gets 3, 4, 6. He sets aside the 4 and uses his unique ability to return one of the First Son's 1s (to the First Son's Supply). The Fourth Son then rolls the remaining two dice and gets 2, 5. As he failed to get any 4s, his turn is over. Collected: Three 4s.

The Fifth Son rolls all five of his dice and gets 1, 2, 5, 6, 6. He sets aside the 5s and uses his unique ability to trade his card and all his dice (Supply and Collected) with the First Son. His turn is over, however, as he traded with the First Son, his turn is next. The new First Son will now work on collecting 1s by adding them to his already collected two 1s.

Note: He could have chosen not to collect (set aside) the 5, however, as the value of Collected dice count against you, the new First Son is trying to catch the new Fifth Son with additional points.
