Game overview
In Wash Dash each player tries to be the fastest to hang his clothes on the dryer to complete the tasks shown on cards. Each completed task gives points and whoever has the most points at the end of the game wins.
Game contents (fig. 1)
- 18 clothespins in 3 colors (fig. 1a)
- 18 pieces of clothing in 3 colors (fig. 1b)
- 6 clothes dryers (fig. 1c)
- 54 cards — 48 task cards and 6 event cards (fig. 1d)
Setup
- Assemble as many clothes dryers as there are players and give 1 to each player (fig. 6).
- Give each player 3 different pieces of clothing and 3 different colored clothespins (fig. 2).
- Shuffle all the cards and put them in a draw pile face down. If 2, 3, or 4 players are playing, take the top 20 cards and put them back in the box — they will not be used in this game.
- The oldest player becomes the first active player and you can begin the game.
Playing the game
The game is played in rounds. At the start of each round the active player draws a number of cards as shown in the table.
| Players | 2* | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cards | 2 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
The active player counts "3, 2, 1, go!" and then reveals all the cards at the same time and puts them in the middle of the table, so everyone can see them (fig. 3).
* Important! In a 2 player game you reveal 2 cards, however, only the first player to complete a task scores points (see End of the round).
Complete the tasks
Now all players simultaneously try to complete any one of the tasks on the revealed cards. To do so the player has to attach clothespins and clothes to the dryer. The players have to hang pieces of clothing by using the corresponding clothespins, exactly as shown on the cards. If a transparent piece of clothing or clothespin is shown, you may use any available piece of clothing or clothespin (fig. 4). As soon as a player has done it and completed the task, he takes the matching card, puts it face up in front of him in a pile of completed task cards and is out of the round.
In each round each player may complete at most one task!
- Fig. 4a. The blue pants have to be hung by using the red clothespin, the red dress — using the yellow clothespin, the yellow shirt — using the blue clothespin.
- Fig. 4b. Any of the three pieces of clothing has to be hung by using the blue and the yellow clothespins.
- Fig. 4c. Both pieces of clothing have to be hung by using the red clothespin.
Each clothespin must be attached to a different bar, except for the tasks when one piece of clothing is hung up by using two clothespins.
Note! Several players might be trying to complete the same task. When one of these players manages to complete the task first, the other players may still try to complete other available tasks.
Event cards
If you reveal an event card, for this round it affects all players equally, slightly changing the rules. If more than one event card is revealed they are all taken into account. There are 3 different event cards (fig. 5):
- Fig. 5a. One handed — use only one hand of your choice.
- Fig. 5b. First bonus — the first player to complete a task takes the matching card and also this event card, which gives 3 extra points.
- Fig. 5c. Opposite — in task cards clothes mean pins and pins mean clothes. Example (fig. 5d): you have to hang the red dress by using the yellow and blue clothespins.
After the round has ended (see below) the event card(s) are discarded from the game (except the "First bonus" card, which is kept by the player, who received it). If 2 identical event cards are revealed, their effect is counted only once, except for the "First bonus" cards, which both are given to the fastest player.
Important! If all opened cards in a round are event cards, draw cards until there is a task card to compete for (all other event cards revealed in such manner also affect the round).
End of the round
When all opened tasks have been completed, the round is over. All players check if everyone has completed their task correctly — see below what to do in case of mistakes. Each player then removes all pieces of clothing and clothespins from their dryer. The player to the left of the active player becomes the new active player and you start a new round.
In a 2 player game the round ends when the first task is completed — the other player doesn't receive a card.
Note! The last round may have less cards than it normally should — it means that more than one player will end the round without a card, however, all the other rules remain the same.
Mistakes
If a player takes a task card without having completed it correctly and/or ignores the effects of an event card, he discards that task card and also one of his previously completed task cards of his choice.
End of the game
The game ends at the end of a round, when the draw pile is empty. Each player adds up the points from the cards he has received for completing the tasks and the winner is the player with the most points. In case of a tie the tied player with the fewest cards wins. If there is still a tie, the players share the victory.
Component notes
When disassembling the dryers, you can keep the three bars connected together and put them in the box as one unit.
