Gameplay
A game of Waroong Wars takes place over a series of rounds. Each round consists of 3 phases:
Shopping phase ▸ Cooking phase ▸ Cleanup phase
Shopping Phase
- Shuffle the Ingredients deck and deal 6 cards to each player. Put remaining cards on the table. Then each player chooses the 6 Ingredients cards by drafting.
- Every player selects 1 Ingredient card and places it face down in front of him. He then passes the remaining Ingredient cards to the player on his left and receives the remaining Ingredient cards from the player on his right.
- The player MUST select 1 Ingredient card on each pass whether you need it or not. From the newly received cards, the player selects 1 Ingredient card again and places it on top of previous selected Ingredient cards face down.
- Repeat the sequence until there are no remaining Ingredient cards left to pass.
- At the end of Shopping phase, each player should have 6 newly selected Ingredient cards in front of him/her. They now can take a look at their cards.
NOTE: During Shopping phase, players cannot take a look at the Ingredient cards that have been selected (including their own cards!). You can look at your cards again after the 6 Ingredient cards have been drafted.
Cooking Phase
- Starting from the player who has the First Cooking marker, he can "cook" the Menu cards by playing the matching Ingredient cards required in the Menu cards.
Example: three Ingredient cards matching the Requirements of the menu Lontong Balap are played to cook it. Get 3 points!
- The cooking player takes the Menu cards from the display and puts them in front of them as a Scoring Pile. The Ingredient cards used to cook are discarded.
- Players draw 1 Customer card from the Customer deck every time a Menu card is claimed, then refill the display by revealing a new Menu card from the Menu deck.
Example: the Lontong Balap menu is cooked together with the Supplement card Kerupuk Puli, which has the Supplement icon required by the menu. Get 5 points!
Supplement cards are a special ingredient that can be added to your cooking to get extra points. If added to the menu with Supplement icon, you'll get +2 VP tokens.
How to refill Menu cards:
- Take the cooked Menu card from the display.
- Slide the Menu display to the right side.
- Refill the menu by revealing a new Menu card from the Menu deck into the leftmost empty space.
NOTE: Each of the cards has a special ability or special scoring. The Customer cards can be used during your cooking phase. Once the card is used, it must be discarded.
- Players can cook more than one Menu card during their turn, if able. When he can't cook anymore, the player on his left will start the Cooking phase. The sequence is repeated until every player has performed the Cooking phase.
Cleanup Phase
- When the last player has finished their Cooking phase, collect all Ingredient cards that have been used in this round. Shuffle them altogether with unused Ingredient cards, forming a new Ingredient deck. The First Cooking marker is passed to the left and the new round is played.
- If you can't cook any Menu card during the Cooking phase, you may take one "Go Boy!" card and place it in your play area. The limit of the "Go Boy!" card for each player is 1, so you may not take any "Go Boy" card if you already have one. You must not cook whenever you take a "Go Boy!" card.
NOTE: The "Go Boy!" card is a "wild" card used as a substitute for any Ingredient cards in the following turn. You cannot have more than 1 "Go Boy!" card. Once used, this card must be discarded.
Ending the Game
When the last card from the Menu deck is revealed, the game has entered its last round. Finish the Cooking phase as usual and score your Victory Points.
Scoring
The Score is calculated by:
- Each Menu card on the player's Scoring pile.
- Unused Customer card worth 1 Victory Point or as indicated on the cards.
