Components
- 184 0WN3R (Owner) cards
- 36 R3QRMNTS (Requirements) cards
- 8 dry-erase license plate boards
- 8 dry-erase markers
Game Setup
- Give each player a dry-erase marker and dry-erase license plate board.
- Shuffle the deck of 0WN3R cards.
- Shuffle the deck of R3QRMNTS cards.
Game Flow
The game takes place over three rounds. Each round consists of a simultaneous Writing Phase followed by a turn-based Guessing Phase.
Writing Phase
- Deal each player one 0WN3R card, and one R3QRMNTS card. Players keep both cards face-down.
- All players simultaneously and secretly attempt to write a vanity plate on their board that would belong to the 0WN3R that was dealt to them.
- Players want others to guess their 0WN3R card from their vanity plate.
- Plate Creation Rules below MUST be followed.
- Players MUST use all three characters on their R3QRMNTS card in order to earn points. If they do not, then the plate creator will receive no points if someone correctly guesses their vanity plate. The guessing player will receive points as normal.
- When a player finishes, they should put their 0WN3R card face-down in the center of the table, but keep their R3QRMNTS card in front of them, face-down.
- When all players are finished, deal six extra 0WN3R cards face-down to the center of the table.
- Shuffle all the 0WN3R cards in the center of the table, then deal them into a grid face-up where all players can easily see them. Players should familiarize themselves with the cards in the grid.
Plate Creation Rules
When creating a vanity plate, the following creation rules MUST always be followed:
- ONLY numbers and upper-case letters. NO dashes, periods, commas, or other punctuation.
- NO more than eight characters.
- NO emoji or drawing of any kind.
- NO vowels, although numbers may be used as a substitute. "Y" is allowed.
- NO spaces.
- NO words that are part of the 0WN3R card title may be represented in the plate. (e.g. - if your 0WN3R card is "Fire Fighter", "FGHTSF1R" would be illegal, but "N0FL4M3S" is OK.)
Guessing Phase
This phase proceeds in clockwise turn order starting with the first Active Player.
- The Active Player reveals their vanity plate to all other players.
- Without taking turns, players race to be the first to guess the Active Player's 0WN3R card correctly.
- Each player gets exactly one chance to guess by saying one of the 0WN3R cards out loud.
- If a player guesses incorrectly, they must wait until the next plate before they can guess again.
- The first player to guess correctly takes the matching 0WN3R card and adds it to their personal scoring pile. There will now be one less card to choose from for the next player.
- If no one guesses correctly, the Active Player reveals which 0WN3R card is the correct answer and discards it from the center grid. (The printed rulebook reads "OWN3R card" here; this is the same 0WN3R card term used throughout.)
- The Active Player then reveals their R3QRMNTS card. If their plate contains all three characters and was guessed correctly, the Active Player adds the R3QRMNTS card to their personal scoring pile.
- Repeat with the next player clockwise as the next Active Player.
After all players have revealed their vanity plates, discard all cards that are not in a scoring pile and proceed to the next round!
Game End and Scoring
At the end of three rounds, the game ends and the player with the most cards in their scoring pile wins! In case of a tie, the winner is the tied player with the most R3QRMNTS cards in their scoring pile. If still tied, share the victory!
Example Round
This example round shows four different vanity plates, the R3QRMNTS cards used to create them, and a set of 0WN3R cards to choose from. See if you can match the plates to the owners! Answers below.
The Ohio plate (5YR0LDS) is shown with a sign reading: "NOTE: The creator of this plate scores no points because they did not use their required letter "H"." Its R3QRMNTS card is SH5.
Answers
- 5YR0LDS = Elementary Teacher (5 year olds)
- 18WHLSMN = Truck Driver (18 wheels man)
