Introducing New Mechanics

Events

This expansion brings a new type of card that affects all players, Events. Some are good, some are bad and all of them will force players to confront new conditions.

Setup

Shuffle the Event Deck and put it next to the Divine Favor Deck.

Rules

The first player to reach 5, 12 and 20 Victory Points takes one Event card from the top of the Event Deck. The player does not look at it and puts it on the table face down in his Village Area. This card will be revealed and resolved next round after the Drawing Phase (just before Players Phase). All Events take place for, or affect, all players.

Example: David is the first player to reach 12 Victory Points. He picks a Divine Favor for himself and then takes one Event card that he places on his Village Area. When the next round begins, after everyone is done drawing their cards, David reveals the Event and reads it out loud.

Example Event card, Odin's Wrath: "All players discard 2 resources (cards or gold or beer). Then discard this card."

Destroying Cards

The word Destroy means that you remove a card from your hand. Destroyed Odin's Path cards are put on the Odin's Path Discard Pile. Destroyed Units and Defenses are returned to their respective supply pile. Destroyed Basic cards are removed from the game and put back in the box (as are the Divine Favor cards if you really want to destroy those).

NOTE: You can never destroy a card that you played this round, as it is not in your hand.

Example: Matthew recognizes that he bought too many Defense cards and he always has too many of them in his hand. He plays the Banshee card and chooses to remove one of his Chicken Towers from his hand to destroy it and return it back to its supply pile. Then he is allowed to attack with his Banshee.

The Divine Favor Cards

Divine Favors provided in this set are alternatives to the 12 basic Divine Favors cards. If you want to use the new Divine Favors, you should remove all basic Divine Favors and only play with the 20 provided in this expansion.

Creating Your Own Set

We strongly recommend that you first play with the suggested setup detailed above, but you are free to create your own set and include part or all of the cards from this expansion.

You can create your own constraints or combos, because everything is possible!

A few things that we would like to underline:

  • Make sure not to include Missions and End-Game Bonuses that refer to cards which you did not include in your set.
  • Be aware that as soon as you add more choices, going beyond the recommended set of 12 different cards, you might create further analysis paralysis (AP). Therefore, make sure that you know your players well when playing very large sets.
  • You can easily differentiate all cards from this expansion by looking for the K icon on the bottom left of any cards.

Please share your sets with the community either on the Kickstarter page or on our boardgamegeek.com product page!

  • Missions
    • Take all 20 regular Missions.
    • Remove Innkeeper and Foundry.
    • Add all Kickstarter Exclusive Expansion Missions.
    • Follow the usual setup.
