- 24 different animals
- 24 green tubes
- 24 search cards
- this rules sheet
Setup
First hide one animal in each tube, then mix the tubes well in the middle of the table. Simply slide them around, without tipping the tubes over! The tubes stay open at the top.
Then each player receives the following number of tubes:
- 3 players: 8 tubes each
- 4 players: 6 tubes each
- 5 players: 5 tubes each (the oldest player only 4 tubes)
- 6 players: 4 tubes each
- 7 players: 3 tubes each (the three youngest players 4 tubes each)
- 8 players: 3 tubes each
Now shuffle the search cards and deal two cards to each player. Each player holds these cards so that no other player can see them. The rest of the search cards are placed as a face-down stack in the middle of the table.
Something for Luck and a Good Memory
Luck and a good memory help you find out who has been given which animal. The player who does this best wins the most search cards, and with them the game.
Getting Started
Unpack the animals, tubes and cards, and let's begin!
Start of the Game
Look What Is in Your Tubes
Each player who already has all four animals shown on one of his search cards at the start tips those animals out, shows them to the others and says: "Look, I have four!"
Then the animals go back into their tubes and stay in front of their owner. The completed search card is placed face down in front of the player; it is worth one point at the end of the game. Then the player may draw a new search card from the stack, so that he again holds two cards in his hand.
Playing the Game
Searching and Asking Begins
The searching and asking starts with the player who most recently had a birthday. Heartfelt congratulations! That player may now ask any other player for an animal that he does not have himself but needs for one of his search cards. So: "Four to me!"
Note: of course you may not look into your fellow players' tubes, so please do not cheat!
If the Player Asked Has the Animal
If the player you asked has the animal, he must give it to you together with its tube. As a reward, you may immediately ask again, either the same player or another one, just as you like.
If the Player Asked Does Not Have the Animal
If the player you asked does not have the animal, your left-hand neighbour immediately takes the turn and may ask further questions. You surely know this basic rule from playing Quartet.
Remember Well Where the Animals Have Gone
Remember well where all the animals have wandered to. That way you can ask the right fellow player when you yourself look for an animal. The tubes with the animals always stay with one player until another player asks for them.
It can also happen that you no longer have any tubes with animals. No problem! Hopefully you know who has which animal when you are next in turn. Then it is again: "Four to me!"
Four With Me!
As soon as you have all four animals for one or more of your search cards, you tip them out, show them to the others and put the animals back into their tubes. The tubes stay in front of you. You place the completed search card face down in front of you and draw a new search card from the stack, as long as cards remain there. Then your left-hand neighbour is next.
End of the Game
The game ends as soon as one of you has successfully placed his last search card and the stack is empty. Now all of you count your placed search cards. Whoever has the most wins the game.
