Margrave Starter Cards Setup
Set up the base game following the base game instructions, then give each player 1 Margrave Starter card of their choice. (Note: The illustration on the Margrave Starter cards are for aesthetic reasons only. All Margrave Starter cards funciton in the same way.) Return unused Margrave Starter cards to the box; they will not be used this game.
Important: The Margrave Starter cards cannot be used if you are playing the Crimson Seas expansion.
New Game Flow Rules
The following rules modify a specific section of the base game rules. All other standard rules apply.
Harvest Phase
During the Harvest Phase, your Margrave Starter card is activated when none of your Citizens are activated or, in the case of doubles, regardless of whether you are the Active player or not.
The Margrave does not activate two times if both conditions are met.
Important: The following paragraph from the base game rules no longer applies when playing with these cards: "If the dice roll did not activate any of a player's Citizens, then that player may take any one Resource from the bank regardless of whether they are the Active player or not."
Card Notes
The front of the Margrave Starter card is printed with the card name Margrave, a person-type icon above a row of icons, and a second person-type icon above a second row. The first row reads: an orange-gold icon with 1, a red icon with 1, and a blue icon with 1, joined by plus signs. The second row reads: an orange-gold icon with 1, an arrow, and a purple icon. The rules card does not explain these icons, so they are not interpreted here. Their meaning must come from the base game's icon key.
Gaps: the rules card is a photograph. It is legible but small, so it is transcribed as printed. The rules card does not state what the Margrave Starter card's icons mean, and this file does not guess at them. The rules card's paragraph about Citizen activation refers to base game rules that are not reproduced here.
