King's Guard Rules

The King's Guard cards are added to Valeria: Card Kingdoms as an Event during the game. The instructions below describe the rules changes. All other standard rules apply.

Playing as Event

Following the Event Card Rules, shuffle the Recruit the King's Guard Event card into the Exhausted card stack. Place the King's Guard Citizen cards face down next to the Exhausted card stack. During the game, when the Recruit the King's Guard Event card is revealed, place it in the empty slot as usual, then place the King's Guard cards face up on top of it. This stack is always considered Exhausted in terms of the end-game conditions, regardless of whether there are King's Guard Citizen cards there or not.

King's Guard Citizen

The King's Guard card's name is printed as "King's Guard" across the middle of the card. The card shows a cost of "3+" at the left, a card-type icon at the top right, and two small icons at the bottom, plus the "1/8" count marker noted under Components.

Gap: the activation numbers, the role icons at the bottom of the card, and the on-turn and off-turn power icons are too small to read reliably in the available photographs. They are not transcribed here. Check the physical card before relying on them.

Event Cards

Each Event card is transcribed from its printed text. Resource icons are given as the icon names used by the base game, with the exceptions noted under Gaps and Notes.

Recruit the King's Guard

Immediately place the King's Guard Citizen into play.

Bog Witch's Proposal

All players may immediately pay 3 [blue resource icon] → 2 [purple Magic icon].

Gift from the Fae

The Active player immediately gains 2 [blue resource icon]. All other players gain 1 [blue resource icon].

Quell Rebellion

All players may immediately pay 3 [red Strength icon] → 2 [purple Magic icon].

Twin Bandits of Fyth

During any Roll Phase, when the two dice show the same value, all players lose 1 Gold, 1 [blue resource icon], and 1 Strength.

Gaps and Notes

  • Icon names not printed in the sources. The "→" symbol is read as the paid-to-gain operator from the base game. The blue numbered circle appears on several cards but its name is not printed in any text available for this transcription, so it is written as "[blue resource icon]". The yellow coin is read as Gold, the red shield as Strength and the purple shield as Magic, following the base-game icon legend. Verify the blue icon against the physical pack.
  • Dice symbol on Twin Bandits of Fyth. The card shows two dice joined by "=". This is transcribed as "the two dice show the same value", which is the normal reading of that symbol. The photographs are small, so confirm it against the card.
  • Event Card Rules. The King's Guard Rules card refers to the Event Card Rules, which are not printed in this pack. They are not reproduced here. The base game's rulebook is the place to look for them.
  • Count marker. The King's Guard Citizen card shows "1/8" in the top left. This is transcribed as printed; the expansion's contents text does not say what the number means.
