- 10 mole pairs
- 30 task cards
- 1 game board
Object of the Game
The goal is to solve many task cards and so win the most shovels.
Preparation
- Take the game contents out of the box. Carefully detach the round pieces from the game board and lay it in the insert in the box. This creates a meadow with many molehills.
- Look at the mole pairs: there are four moles each in five different colours, which are combined into pairs. Each colour is combined with one other colour exactly once.
- Put the ten mole pairs into the holes of the molehills, mixed up. Of the twenty moles, ten are now visible on the game board. The others are hidden inside the molehills.
- Sort the task cards by the number of shovels on the back of the cards. They indicate the difficulty level of the cards. At the end of the game the easy cards count one shovel, the medium ones two, and the hard ones three shovels each.
- Set the six cards with the four shovels aside for now, for the professional variant.
- Stack the remaining cards face down on top of each other: at the bottom lie the cards with three shovels, above them the cards with two shovels, and at the very top the cards with one shovel.
Let's Go!
Each of you takes a task card from the stack and looks at it without showing it to the other players.
On each card you see moles in different numbers and colours. You have solved a task when, after your turn, exactly as many moles are visible on the game board in the corresponding colours as the card states.
For example, if the card shows three black moles and one red mole, you try, in three moves, to turn the mole pairs so that exactly three black moles and one red mole are visible. It does not matter how many blue, yellow or white moles are standing there as well, since for this card only black and red matter.
The youngest player begins.
To solve your task card, you pull a mole pair out of a molehill and put it back, turned around, into the same molehill. This makes a mole in a different colour appear on the game board. You repeat this action with two other mole pairs. So at the end of a turn you have turned three different mole pairs.
Afterwards you check whether the colours and number of the moles on the game board match exactly the moles on your task card.
Whenever it is your turn, you must turn three different mole pairs, even if the task on the card should already be fulfilled.
If the moles do not match your task card, it is the next player's turn. Try your luck with the same card again in the next round, until you have solved it and may take a new card.
If the moles match your task card, you show it to your fellow players and lay it face up in front of you. You have won this card. For the next round you take a new task card from the stack and lay it face down in front of you.
Then it is the next player's turn.
End of the Game
If one of you cannot draw another task card from the face-down stack, the game ends. The task cards that you have not yet fulfilled are set aside.
Each of you counts the shovels on the task cards you have won. The player with the most shovels is Buddel King.
If you want to play a shorter round, you can determine at the start that the game ends when, for example, a player has solved five task cards. The winner here too is the player with the most shovels.
If you play several rounds, then after the game take all mole pairs out again, mix them anew, and put them back into the holes.
Game Tips for Professionals
Super Buddler
Replace the six easy task cards (one shovel) with the six hard task cards (four shovels). Sort the cards before the game starts so that at the very bottom lie the cards with four shovels, above them those with three and then with two shovels.
Mole Mix
As soon as one of you has solved a task card, he turns the box around by one corner. Then it is the next player's turn.
