Game Set Up

  1. Take the 3 Basic magic cards from the ability deck and place them in a line. Shuffle the remaining 10 ability cards, and then draw 2 more cards and add them face down to your hand. Next, arrange the 3 map cards vertically, and place the remaining 8 ability cards, 4 on each side of the map.

There are many types of cards, so remember to check their names in the component list before setting them up.

  2. Place enemy cards face down on top of the arranged ability cards (Yellow - 3 cards, Red - 5 cards). The remaining enemy cards will not be used this time.

Finally, arrange the status cards vertically and place the wizard token at the start.

  3. Check your 2 face down ability cards. If either of them are an advanced magic card, add it to the basic magic cards. If either of them is a travel companion, combine it with your ability cards.

    • Using advanced magic cards: add to basic magic cards.
    • Using travel companion cards: rotate chosen ability upwards. Stack and combine with attack counter cards.

Once an ability has been set, it cannot be changed.

In addition to abilities, travel companions also have the skills to assist in attacks (white squares in the upper right corner of the card). The more squares, the more powerful the assistance.

How to Play

Travel around the map visiting different locations and fighting enemies. Face the Demon Lord Terra in the Demon Castle at the edge of the world, but make sure your life points do not reach zero. You will acquire travel companions and magic cards by winning battles, so it is imperative to defeat as many foes as you can and strengthen your abilities before you ultimately confront the Demon Lord.

A. Movement

The wizard can move freely between adjacent hexagons. However, each hexagon passed over reduces their life points by the amount shown. The wizard also recovers life points by the amount shown when passing through villages and towns (only once per game).

Each square you pass over reduces your life points by the amount shown.

B. Combat

As you move around the map, you will come across encounter areas. The first time you visit this square you must stop and fight the enemy. The battle is won if you reduce the enemy's life points to zero by inflicting damage with your magic spells.

Enemy encounter — Preparation for battle

Flip the corresponding enemy card face up and combine it with the status and area cards to create the battlefield.

  • Follow the white line out of the encounter area and flip the enemy card.
  • Align the enemy counter with the white line on the far left. The objective is to reduce the enemy's life points to zero.
  • Match the area card to where you encounter the enemy. Travel companions are also visible here.
  • The same enemy can have different strength, depending on the area you meet them.

Inflicting damage on enemies

The enemy has 3 types of magic resistance. You must use your magic to attack each of these types.

  • Magic resistance: each grey square protects it from losing 1 life point.
  • Attack power from your travel companions: each white square inflicts 1 point of damage on the enemy.

Check the spellbook to see which effects each magic card has and how much damage they can do to the enemy. You may combine magic cards. The amount of damage you can inflict on the enemy is shown on the card.

By acquiring the advanced magic spellbook and advanced magic cards, you cast more powerful spells and recover life points.

To perform an attack, you need at least one magic card.

Flow of battle

  1. Checking abilities. First, check the abilities of your travel companions. For example, Porcupine's ability "enemies lose 2 life points at the beginning of the battle" means that if you have this travel companion you can reduce your enemy's life points by 2.

  2. Building the magic deck. Create a deck (3 or more cards) from the magic cards in your hand and shuffle it face down. Example: you build a deck with four cards from your hand... and you shuffle it face down.

  3. Magic spells. Decide how many cards to draw from your hand (min. 1, max. 4) and reduce your life points by 1 point for each card you draw. (If you draw 3 cards, reduce your life points by 3 points.) Important: You must leave at least 1 card on the deck! In this example, you decide to draw 3 cards... leave at least 1 card on your deck.

  4. Magic synthesis. Combine magic cards and cast more powerful spells. Combine compatible types of magic.

  5. Calculating damage inflicted. Calculate the value of the synthesized magic attack and subtract the value of the enemy's resistance. The result is the damage inflicted on the enemy's life points.

MAGIC ATK.+ SUPP.- MAGIC RES.= DMG
    2+2-13
    0+0-30
    4+1-32

Total 5 damage — reduce enemy's life points by 5.

  6. Checking skills and enemy damage. Check the skills of your travelling companions and use any that can be activated. If the enemy's life points are not at zero after the attack, their remaining life points will be used to attack you according to the value on their life track. The number under the enemy's life points is their attack power.

If you fail to defeat the enemy after one attack, rebuild the magic deck and repeat the process, starting at point 2.

If you win the battle

Well done! Check the enemy's points and recover your life points by that number.

Under the defeated enemy is an ability card: add it to your hand, then place the defeated enemy face up where it was. This means the enemy is defeated and no more battles will take place, even if you pass this hexagon again.

If the ability card you get is a travel companion, choose an ability and add it to the attack counter.

  • When your life points reach zero, you can restore up to 8 by retiring any travel companion from the attack counter. For example, if you have only 1 life point left, you can still draw up to 4 cards in the magic spells section. However, once your life points are at zero, you must retire a travel companion from the attack counter to restore 8 life points.
  • If the healing spell is successfully used from the advanced spellbook, you can restore 8 life points without having to retire a travel companion.

Battle with Demon Lord Terra

Once you reach the Demon Castle, the battle against the Demon Lord Terra will begin. Set the Demon Lord card and start the battle. If you win, you're all clear and the princess is saved!
