- A 26-card 5th Avenue demo deck. Each card is numbered on its back (1/26 through 26/26) so you can check the deck is complete.
Game Overview
The card that starts the adventure reads:
5th Avenue — New York, 1931. Al Capone has called upon you from Chicago. You must steal a revolutionary product from the multinational corporation 2M4GD CORP. Industrial espionage is not your forte, but you can handle this job. All the necessary tools have been left on the premises. Do a thorough search of the building's surrounding area.
Game Setup
First, download the free Unlock! app on your smartphone or your tablet (Apple Store / Google Play).
To play, nothing easier. Gather a few friends together (three or four for the first game, but you can also play alone). Then, take all the cards from the deck and split them among players (don't deal nor spread them). Last, read the "5th Avenue" Introduction card. There you go!
Now launch the app, select "Demo Adventures" and "5th Avenue". Then, press START and flip this card over.
Game Rules
The first location revealed by flipping the introduction card carries this instruction:
Somewhere on this location card (gray), you can see a number. If you spot a hidden letter (or number) in the illustration, you can reveal the matching card.
Whenever a number or letter turns up on a card, players take the matching card from the deck and reveal it face up on the table for everyone to see.
Card Types
Objects (red or blue stripe)
Objects can be combined with a number of the opposite colour (see Combining Objects). For example:
A crowbar. Remember: you can't leave any traces behind you! You can combine this object with a Red number. To do so, add their card numbers together. If the total matches a card from the deck, you can reveal it.
A hairpin. You can combine this object with a Red number. To do so, add their card numbers together. If the total matches a card from the deck, you can reveal it.
A lever. You can combine this object with a Red number. To do so, add their card numbers together. If the total matches a card from the deck, you can reveal it.
A grappling hook. You can combine this object with a Red number. To do so, add their card numbers together. If the total matches a card from the deck, you can reveal it.
Machines (green stripe)
This green card is a Machine. You must find hints as to its operation in this room. To use it, press [the Machine button] in the app, then enter the number of this card (141).
The clue for that machine reads: You must deactivate the right connectors but there is no lever.
Codes (yellow stripe)
To open this door, you must find a 4-digit code. Once you have the code, press [the Code button] in the app, enter the code, and follow the instructions.
Other Cards (grey stripe)
Grey-striped cards include locations, the results of an interaction, penalties, and modifiers — for example the locked-vault room, the "No!" penalty card, and the +67 modifier described below.
Combining Objects
You can combine this object with a Red number. To do so, add their card numbers together. If the total matches a card from the deck, you can reveal it.
You can combine this object with a Blue number. To do so, add their card numbers together. If the total matches a card from the deck, you can reveal it.
Discarding Cards

Later, breaking the vault's alarm triggers a second lock:
An alarm starts ringing and the exit door locks automatically. You must find another 4-digit code. Press [the Code button] in the app and enter it!
The clue for that code is a note reading: Andy, let me remind you that the code has changed. Enter Leslie to exit!
Hidden Objects
Somewhere on this location card (gray), you can see a number. If you spot a hidden letter (or number) in the illustration, you can reveal the matching card.
Your tools were well-hidden. You can reveal the three cards whose numbers you can see.
As you did earlier, you can reveal the cards whose numbers or letters you can see.
Hints
This demo deck does not carry its own hint text; players use the Unlock! app's standard Hint and Penalty controls exactly as directed by the Penalty and Code cards above. The full rules for the app's Hint feature are covered at the "Full rules" link in the Table of Contents.
End of Game
After breaking into the vault, players are told: The vault is open. There's a wooden crate in it. Discarding the vault cards leads to the corporation's headquarters, where the crate reveals the words: Congrats, you successfully trespassed! As you did earlier, you can reveal the cards whose numbers or letters you can see.
The adventure then concludes on its final card:
When you cut off the alarm, the portrait slides. It was hiding a secret shelf. Discard cards 25 and 43.
As with every Unlock! adventure, players stop the app's countdown once they reach the end, and the app then shows their completion time and star rating.
Application
The same Unlock! app used for retail Unlock! boxes runs this demo: launch it, choose Demo Adventures, then 5th Avenue, and keep the device within reach of the whole table. Full rules for the app's buttons (Start/Pause, Hint, Penalty, Code, Machine) are available at https://www.spacecowboys.fr/unlock-demos-english.
