Game Goal

Players try to add their UNIKAT tiles to the tiles already lying on the table. Tiles that are placed directly next to each other may differ in only one feature. The player who gets rid of all their tiles first wins.

Setup

  • Each participant takes one screen.
  • Put all the UNIKAT tiles into the bag and mix them.
  • Each player draws 10 tiles and arranges them behind their screen so that the other players cannot see them.
  • Take 3 tiles out of the bag and place them face up, so that all players can see them. This is the display (wystawka).
  • The next tile drawn from the bag is the starting tile. Place it in the middle of the table.

Course of Play

The oldest player begins. They add a tile to the starting tile according to the placement rules below. Play then continues clockwise. On their turn, each player chooses one of two possible actions:

  • A. Placing a tile
  • B. Exchanging a tile

A. Placing a Tile

On their turn, a player may add any number of their tiles, provided they are placed according to the tile-placement rules.

Tile-placement rules

  • UNIKAT tiles may be placed side by side only if they differ in just one of the four features; the other three features must then be the same.
  • The first tile a player places may be added next to any tile already lying on the table.
  • Each following tile must be added only next to the tile that was just placed.

Bonus

If, during their turn, a player places a tile so that it touches (shares an edge with) at least two other tiles, then after completing that action they may perform one more action of their choice.

This additional action ends the player's turn, even if they are entitled to another bonus.

B. Exchanging a Tile

If a player cannot or does not want to place any tile on the table, they place one of their own tiles on the display. In return, they may then either:

  • take a tile from the display, or
  • draw a tile from the bag.

Drawing a tile

If, at the end of their actions, a player has fewer than 10 tiles behind their screen, they draw 1 tile from the display or draw 1 tile from the bag. The turn then passes to the next player, clockwise.

Note: When all the tiles have been taken from the display, draw from the bag and reveal 3 new tiles to form a new display.

End of the Game

The game ends immediately when a player places their last tile on the table. That player is the winner.

Multi-Round Play

  • Before starting, the players prepare a sheet of paper and a pen, and agree how many rounds they will play.
  • Each round is played as a separate game.
  • At the end of each round, each player receives negative points for every tile left behind their screen.
  • After the last game, the winner is the player with the fewest negative points.
