Is New Discoveries compatible with every printing of the base game, and can you use its boards in a base game?

Yes. The designer said the expansion works with every base-game version, and its 3D boards can replace the boards from earlier releases. Its Era cards can be shuffled straight into the base decks, and players report the dual-layer boards work from the very first game; you can leave the Museum module out.
