What happens when a unit is hit and I have no card for it in hand, discard or deck?

The counter is removed from the board, and nothing is removed from the supply. Cards sitting in your supply are never casualties, so a counter can leave the board while its cards wait in supply. Casualties cannot be paid by removing the counter instead of a card when a card is available.
