Game Components
1 game board, 135 Twilight cards (large), 57 scene cards (small), 2 dice, 8 Cullen family crests (playing pieces), 1 pad, plus pens (not included).
Object of the Game
Immerse yourself in the world of Twilight and be the first to collect all 8 different scene cards.
Game Setup
- The game board is placed in the middle of the table.
- Each player takes a Cullen crest as a playing piece and places it on the "Phoenix AZ Start" field.
- Shuffle the Twilight cards (large cards) and place them face down in the middle of the game board. A discard pile will form to the right of it.
- Sort the scene cards (small cards) by their number into 8 stacks, so that all Scene 1 cards are in one stack, the Scene 2 cards in another stack, and so on. These 8 stacks are placed next to the game board.
- Each player receives a sheet of paper and a pen, which are not included in the game.
Gameplay
The youngest player begins. Play proceeds clockwise.
1. Movement
Whoever is on turn rolls one die and then moves their Cullen crest forward that many spaces along the path on the game board, in any direction. Follow the instructions on the field on which you land.
Special movement rules:
- From the starting field "Phoenix," all players must move their Cullen crest clockwise along the path. After that, each player may decide for themselves whether to move clockwise or counterclockwise.
- Any number of Cullen crests may stand on the same field.
2. The Game Board
The board is divided into eight scenes: the outer ring holds Scenes 1 to 4, and the inner ring holds Scenes 5 to 8.
You may only collect the scene card that matches the scene your Cullen crest is in. If your crest is, for example, on a field in Scene 2, you may collect the "Scene 2" card.
The outer corner fields partly belong to two scenes.
Special fields:
- Field "Phoenix AZ Start": When you land on this field, you draw a Twilight card. (On your very first move away from this field, no Twilight card is drawn.)
- Field "Highschool": After successfully completing a challenge, you may take a "Scene 1" card or a "Scene 2" card.
- Field "Sport": When you land here, your turn ends and you do not draw a Twilight card. On your next turn, roll for your movement a 1, 3 or 5; otherwise you must sit out. You may roll and draw normally after sitting out twice.
- Field "Strand" (Beach): After successfully completing a challenge, you may take a "Scene 3" card or a "Scene 4" card.
3. Twilight Cards
Most board fields instruct the player who lands on them to take a Twilight card. The player to your left draws the card.
There are two kinds of Twilight cards: challenge cards and story cards. They are all mixed together in the Twilight card deck.
Twilight challenge cards:
- When such a card is drawn, the player to your left reads out either the challenge next to the white cross or the one next to the red cross. Whether it is white or red is indicated by the cross on the field your Cullen crest stands on, or by the text on the field.
- White cross: These challenges refer to events from the film and involve dice duels or secret votes, and they find out what you know about your friends. Paper and pen are needed for the votes. What is written is usually read aloud to check for matches. Note: If the instruction says "All players," the player whose turn it is also writes something down; if it says "All other players," only the other players write something down and not the player whose turn it is.
- Red cross: These challenges test your knowledge of the Twilight world.
- Success or failure? If you successfully complete the challenge, you receive a scene card (see "4. Collecting Scene Cards"). If you fail, you receive no scene card. If the card specifies consequences for failure, you must carry them out. Your turn ends in any case.
- Played challenge cards are placed face up next to the face-down Twilight card deck, forming an open discard pile.
- For Scenes 7 and 8, separate rules apply (see "End of the Game").
Twilight story cards:
- When the player to your left draws a story card, they hand it to you (there are far fewer story cards than challenge cards in the deck). Read the card aloud and follow its instructions. Some story cards must be played immediately, others may be kept for later. Story cards can affect challenge cards and change the positions of the Cullen crests on the game board. They are powerful cards and should be used wisely.
- You may hold more than one story card.
- Some story cards forbid holding other story cards. If you hold such a card and draw another story card to keep, you may decide which of the two you keep and place the other on the discard pile.
- Played story cards are placed face up next to the face-down Twilight card deck, on the discard pile.
Every Twilight card is marked either Human or Vampire. Some board fields and story cards refer only to Human Twilight cards, others only to Vampire Twilight cards. Always check whether an instruction targets Human or Vampire.
4. Collecting Scene Cards
- When you successfully complete a challenge, you receive a scene card corresponding to the scene your Cullen crest is in. You may only hold one scene card of each scene. Scene cards 1 to 6 may be collected in any order; so the "Scene 2" card may be collected before the "Scene 1" card. Be careful, however: Scene 7 may only be entered and collected once you hold cards 1 to 6, and Scene 8 once you hold cards 1 to 7.
- If, after successfully completing a challenge, you are entitled to a scene card that you already have (for example Scene 1), you get nothing. Instead, you roll and move your Cullen crest forward. You ignore the instructions on the field you land on, and you do not draw another Twilight card.
End of the Game
Scene 7 and Scene 8 follow these rules:
Scene 7 – Ballet Studio: Scene 7 consists of a single field, the ballet studio. You do not need to land on it with an exact roll. The player to your left draws Twilight cards until they have a challenge card (not a story card). That player decides which of the two tasks they set you: you must successfully complete both the white task (white cross) and answer the red question (red cross) correctly. If you fail one or both challenges, you do not receive a Scene 7 card. Stay in the ballet studio and try again on your next turn. If you successfully complete both challenges, you receive a Scene 7 card. On your next turn, move your Cullen crest to the field in Scene 8.
Scene 8 – School Dance (Schulball): Scene 8 consists of a single field, the school dance. When you move onto this field, or begin your turn on this field, the player to your left draws Twilight cards until they have a challenge card. That player decides which of the two tasks they set you: the red or the white one. If you fail, you remain on the field and try again on your next turn. If you complete the challenge, you are the winner of the game.
Winning the game: The winner is the player who first collects all 8 scene cards.
Quick Rules (Kurzspielregel)
- Whoever is on turn rolls one die and moves their Cullen crest accordingly along the board fields. Follow the instructions of the field on which you land. Most fields instruct you to draw a Twilight card. Your left-hand neighbour does this for you and reads out the task or question.
- Most Twilight cards require you to do something or to answer a question about the film or about the other players. If you are successful, you receive a scene card. There are 8 different scene cards (numbered 1 to 8). The part of the board on which your Cullen crest stands shows which scene card you receive.
- The goal is to be the first to have collected all 8 different scene cards.
