Preparation

Complete the game board jigsaw and place it in the middle of the table. Stick each of the three switches into any of the three holes in the game board and turn them so that one stretch of track is open. Place the train in front of the first switch on the track so that it can move along the railway line in a clockwise direction. Each child chooses a color and takes the corresponding station tile. This represents the station to which the player wants to take as many passengers as possible. Any extra station tiles that are not needed should be put back into the box. Shuffle the passenger tiles and randomly distribute six tiles each stacked face up, in a draw pile, on each of the four platforms on the game board. Have the switch die ready to use.

How to play

Play in a clockwise direction. The player who can best whistle like a train is the first to be an engineer and begins.

  • Roll the switch die.
  • Change the position of the switch shown on the die roll so that the track of the other section becomes free.
  • With a cheerful "Choo-Choo," travel with the train to the platform that you can reach after repositioning the switch.
  • Look at the top passenger tile there. The depicted children have tickets that show to which station they would like to travel on the train. All of the children depicted on one tile always travel together to one of the desired stations.
    • Later in the game, it may be that you arrive with the train on a platform on which there is no longer any passenger tile. Then you are out of luck, and it's the next player's turn.

Does the passenger tile show a ticket in the color of your station?

  • Yes! Fantastic! All aboard please! Stick the passenger ticket into the slot on the train and move with it to the station of your color. Let your passengers get off there and place the tile in the corresponding area of the game board.
  • No! Too bad; you can't take your passengers to your own color station because they only have tickets for other stations. Of course as the engineer you must still drive the passengers to another station. You are free to choose which station based on the colors of the tickets. Drop the passengers off at another station and place the passenger tile on the colored area at the new station.

Example

Fredi's station is the blue swimming pool. He rolls the switch die, which shows orange. Fredi repositions the orange switch.

Then he travels with the train to the blue pool platform. The passenger tile there also shows a blue ticket, among others. He lets the passenger get on.

Now he travels with the train to the blue station at the swimming pool. He lets the passenger get off and places the tile in the blue area.

Did you let the passengers get off? Then your turn is over, and the next engineer takes his/her turn to roll the switch die.

End of the game

The game ends when there is no longer any passenger tile on the platforms and all the passengers have therefore been dropped off at the various colored stations.

Now take all the passenger tiles from your station and place them next to each other in a row. Pay attention to the alignment of the tiles. The player with the longest line of passengers wins.

Player yellow has the longest line and has therefore brought the most passengers to his or her station and wins the game.

Tip: If you can already count, you can also count the passengers on your tiles. The player wins who has brought the most passengers to his or her station.

Variations for engineers with foresight

The basic rules of the game apply, but with the following changes:

Switch Wishes

In this game, the die is not needed. The engineer may reposition any number of switches in order to reach a certain platform with the train. Which player has the best overview for repositioning the switches and can bring the most passengers to his/her own station?

Switcher

In this game, the die is not needed. The engineer decides which of the three switches to reposition. The engineer, however, may only reposition one single switch. Who will be clever enough always to reposition the best switch in order at the end to take the most passengers to his or her station?

Tip for especially surprising train rides

(can be combined with the basic game and the variations)

The passenger tiles can also be placed face down on the platforms. The engineer moves as usual to one of the four platforms. Only this time, the engineer turns over the top passenger tile and sees to which station the passengers want to go. Under which tile are the most passengers hidden?
