Tiers 1 to 3 each cancel one component chit; tier 4 cancels two. The reduction applies only to the one Prepare action it is used for, and it can be used only before taking the Prepare Trick action, overriding the general rule that contraptions go before placing Characters. It cannot satisfy end-game Level 3 requirements or classroom placement, and it must be built before use.
