How do Trickerion shards give extra Action Points: how many, when, and where?
The designer ruled on timing and repeats, and the rulebook states the Theater exception.

Spend one shard per Character placement to add +1 AP; only one shard per Character. You must pay it when you place the Character, so a shard earned during that placement's actions cannot be used, and shards cannot be spent for AP in the Theater. Enhancing can be done once per placement but repeatedly through the turn across different Characters, and it stacks with a Special Assignment card's +1 AP.
