It rerolls at most one X die, only when fewer usable dice are available than it wants, then takes the first valid option in its priority list; with equal options it uses the leftmost die, and a '?' die means its own school. If both Learn Trick dice show X it does not gain a trick and takes other actions. You can keep it out of Downtown by taking both Downtown spots yourself.
