Can you learn a trick from your Magician's favorite category if no Downtown die shows that category, or both trick dice show X?
The designer settled the favorite-category part; the X-die handling is agreed across several threads.

You may always learn from your favorite category without a matching die. But Learn Trick still needs a Downtown die not showing X that it can set to X, so with both trick dice on X you must first spend AP to reroll one (1 AP) or set one (2 AP), then learn. An earlier rulebook example suggesting otherwise was fixed.
