Components

Players: 3-5. Play time: 30-ish minutes. Ages: Dead+.

  • 18 line cutters
  • 64 travel size
  • 6 of those circle pogs
  • 6 tiny math-rollers
  • 1 lord

Setup

  1. Each player chooses a crusty card and puts it on the table in front of them.

  2. Slide an HP track under your crusty. The topmost visible layer is your current HP. All players start at 3HP.

You can never have more than 5HP.

If you go below 1HP, you're out of the game and a disgrace unto the LORD.

Your HP track slides up & down under your crusty as you lose/gain HP.

  1. Arrange the venues in a circle like this and put the Trash Lord facedown in the center.

  2. All players put their crusty's token on top of the Squat card.

  3. Separate and shuffle each deck of mini-cards and place them next to their corresponding venue.

  4. Leave room for a discard pile behind each venue (except the Squat).

  5. Put the dice wherever the fuck you want. It's a "free" country...

See VARIANTS on the last page for other layouts and how to use the Vacant Lot & Street Corner venues.

Venues

Venues function like "spaces" on a game board. All venues (except the Squat) have a corresponding deck of mini-cards.

  • The Squat is the shithole you live in and it's where you go to stash things.
  • The Altar is where you sacrifice shit to get blessings.
  • This Dumpster is the safest & has the most snax.
  • This Dumpster is less safe & has the most smokes.
  • This Dumpster is dangerous & has the most dope.

5-Player Games

In a 5-player game, you only need 3 things in your stash (snax, smokes, & dope) before you can summon the Trash Lord. Booze cards can't be stashed, but if you trash them to start a fight, it doesn't count as an action. Other than that, just play the game normally.

Gameplay

On each player's turn, they can take up to 4 of the following actions. You can take the actions in any order and you can take the same action more than once. We don't give a shit which player goes first. Play moves clockwise.

Skitch

Move your crusty (token) to an adjacent venue.

Dig

Draw a card from a dumpster deck.

  • You have to be at a dumpster to dig there. Duh.
  • Depending on the type of card you draw, you'll either add it your hand or resolve it immediately. (see CARDS)
  • Each additional dig action you take at the same dumpster that turn is risky and you'll have to roll for it.

2nd dig: 1 dice | 3rd dig: 2 dice | 4th dig: 3 dice

  • If you don't roll any 1's, you can draw a card normally. But if you roll a 1 on any of the dice, the fuckin' cops show up—you have to discard your hand, move to the Squat, and end your turn.
  • When any deck runs out of cards, shuffle the discard to form a new deck.

Stash Things

Take thing cards from your hand and put them in your stash. (see THINGS on the next page)

  • You have to be at the Squat to do this.
  • To stash things, line them up horizontally (and facedown) next to your crusty's card. You can stash up to 4 things at once and it still only counts as 1 action.
  • You need 1 of each thing (booze, smokes, snax & dope) in your stash in order to summon the Trash Lord and win the game.
  • You can only have 1 of each thing in your stash at any given time and you can't stash any other type of card.
  • You can't voluntarily remove things from your own stash. They belong to the Lord now.

Your Stash: line up your stashed cards like this. It makes it easier for everyone to distinguish your stash from your hand.

Trash Things

Discard a thing card from your hand and use its effect.

  • To trash a thing, put it in the discard pile of any dumpster and then resolve the thing's effect.
  • Each thing has a unique effect that becomes activated when you trash it. (see THINGS on the next page)
  • You can do this at any venue and each thing you trash counts as 1 action. (Resolve them one-at-a-time.)
  • You don't get to use a thing's effect if you stash it, sacrifice it to get a blessing, or if you're forced to discard it.

Sacrifice

Discard a card from your hand to draw a blessing card.

  • To make a sacrifice, choose a card from your hand and place it in any dumpster's discard pile (not in the Altar's pile) then draw a blessing card and add it to your hand.
  • You have to be at the Altar to do this and the card you sacrifice can't be a blessing.

Summon the Trash Lord

Play a Summon card at the Altar and win the game.

  • See SUMMONING

Panhandle*

Beg for change to try and get more HP.

  • *Panhandling is a FREE ACTION (it doesn't count toward your 4 actions). You can't do it at the Altar or Squat.
  • You can panhandle up to 3 times on your turn. The first time you panhandle, roll 1 dice. The second time: roll 2 dice. Third time: 3 dice. If you don't roll any 1's, you gain 1HP. If you roll a 1 on any of the dice, the cops show up—you have to discard your hand, move to the Squat, and end your turn.

The Trash Lord

The Trash Lord begins the game facedown cuz it's a sleepy little shit.

The Lord is awakened when:

...the first trashling card is drawn. Discard the trashling, turn the Trash Lord face-up and point it (head first) at the player who drew the trashling. The player does NOT have to pay a tithe… this time. (see TRASHLINGS)

-OR-

...when a thing is stashed for the first time. The player who stashes the first thing card must flip over the Trash Lord and point it at themselves. They do NOT have to pay a Tithe.

Once the Trash Lord has been awakened, it remains in play for the remainder of the game. NOTE: The Trash Lord points at the actual players, not their cards/tokens.

Cards

Trashlings

When drawn: Resolve immediately & discard. When discarded: Put it in the discard pile of the dumpster it came from.

Trashlings are vile, diseased crittershits, borne of filth & garbage. In service to the Lord, they collect tithes from all those who trespass.

When a trashling card is drawn (no matter who draws it) the player the Trash Lord is currently pointing at must discard 1 thing of their choice from their stash (not their hand). If they don't have any things in their stash, they lose 1HP. If they die, it's because they're an irresponsible dipshit who deserves the grave they've dug.

Once the tithe is paid, the targeted player rotates the Trash Lord to point at the player on their left.

Things

When drawn: Add to your hand. When discarded: Put in any dumpster's discard pile.

Things are the only shit that matters in this stupid life. You need 1 of each thing in your stash if you want to summon the Trash Lord and win the game. Things can also be trashed to take advantage of their effects.

  • Snax: If you trash a snax card, you can rotate the Trash Lord to point at the player of your choice.
  • Booze: If you trash a booze card, you can start a fight with a player at the same venue. (see FIGHTING)
  • Smokes: If you trash a smokes card, you can gain 1HP (up to the maximum of 5).
  • Dope: If you trash a dope card, you can steal 1 card from any player's stash (not their hand). You can't look at the card before you choose.

Scrap

When drawn: Resolve immediately & discard. When discarded: Put in the discard pile of the dumpster it originally came from.

Scrap cards kinda suck. When you draw one, just do whatever it says then discard that stupid shit.

Gutter Scum rules (printed in the 2nd edition rulebook): If a card has a shitty bird thing on the bottom next to some words, that means the card has a different effect when you're playing with the GUTTER SCUM expansion. If you're NOT playing with the expansion, disregard that shit. If you ARE playing with the expansion, the card's effect is the one printed next to the stupid bird.

Keepers

When drawn: Add to your hand. When discarded: Put in any dumpster's discard pile.

Keepers can be played anytime they're relevant—even if it's during some other asshole's turn—and playing them doesn't count as an action.

Some keepers are useless garbage. They don't do anything, but you have to add them to your hand anyway. It's cool, though. They come in handy when you need to discard some shit or pass cards to other players.

Blessings

When drawn: Add to your hand. When discarded: Put in the Altar's discard pile.

To get a blessing card, you must make a sacrifice at the Altar—discard any 1 card from your hand and put it in any dumpster's discard pile (not in the Altar's discard pile).

Blessings work like keepers—you can play them whenever they're relevant and they don't count as actions. They can be stolen in a fight, passed to another player, or discarded just like any other card.

Some blessings are SUMMON cards. (see SUMMONING)

Fighting

Yeah, you're all about peace & shit, but sometimes you just gotta pop a dude in the junk and five-finger his smokes for the god-possum, you know?

Starting a Fight

  • Trash a booze card from your hand.
  • Declare who you wanna start shit with. You can only fight someone if they're at the same venue that you are. You're not a fuckin' wizard.
  • Fighting happens in rounds. The defender must fight the first round (unless they have a card that says otherwise).
  • Keeper & blessing cards can be played whenever they're relevant during the fight. ["Skitch to any venue" is the only exception]
  • You and your opponent each grab 3 dice.

Round of Fighting

  • Both players roll their dice at the same time.
  • 5's & 6's count as hits. Everything else is a miss.
  • Each player totals up their hits.
  • The difference between those numbers is the amount of damage done to the loser.

Example: Bajo got 1 hit and Gloria got 2. Bajo loses 1HP in this round.

  • The loser adjusts their HP track accordingly.
  • Now that the round is over, the players have the option to back out.
  • If neither player backs out, they fight another round. The fight doesn't end until someone backs out.

Favor of the Lord

If a player rolls all 6's in a round of fighting, they can draw a free blessing card and add it to their hand.

When Someone Backs-Out...

  • They're a fucking loser.
  • They move to an adjacent venue (their choice).
  • They give all cards in their hand to the winner.
  • If they started the fight, their turn is over.

If a Player Runs Out of HP...

  • They are with the Lord now. (RIP)
  • They give all the cards in their hand to their killer.
  • Any things they have in their stash are discarded.
  • If the Trash Lord was pointing at them when they died, it rotates to the player on their left.

Summoning

Once you have all 4 things in your stash, ya gotta summon the Trash Lord to win the game.

  • Summoning counts as an action.
  • There are 3 summon cards in the Blessings deck. If other players have all the summon cards, knock out whatever teeth they've got left and steal that shit!

To Summon That Sweet, Succulent Trash Lord...

  • You must be at the Altar.
  • You must have all 4 things in your stash (booze, smokes, dope, & snax)
  • Play a summon card from your hand.
  • Stand up and declare to all the fucking losers that you are the Trash Lord's one true glorious Trash Child.
  • OPTIONAL:
    • Relish in the blessings
    • Puff on some crystal
    • Puke on the cards
    • Fuck off
    • Go do some crimes
    • Order sushi and not pay

Variants

Different layouts: You can arrange the venue cards any way you want to, really. We don't give a shit. As long as they're all connected in some way, it's cool. Get fuckin' weird with it.

If you wanna smash the fuckin' system, you can add one of the optional venues that make the game even shittier than it already is.

  • Vacant Lot: If you skitch into this venue and there's already another player there, you have to fight them. No booze card is required. It doesn't count as an action.
  • Street Corner: If you play with this venue, it's the only place where players can panhandle.

There are no other rules. Rules are for gods, fascists, and managers. Don't even play this game. We don't care.
