New Characters

This section explains the new characters included with the game. The set contains six cards: Scientist, Illusionist, Girl, Copycat, Guru and Sacred Tree. Scientist and Illusionist were already present in the earlier Tragedy Looper script collection and are explained in the base game; their card designs for 5th Edition are new. Girl was originally a bonus with a board game magazine and is reprinted here. Copycat, Guru and Sacred Tree first appear in this booklet. The booklet gives each character's explanation, rule supplement and sample scripts. Character backgrounds are omitted because they are covered in the base book's Protagonist and Scriptwriter notes.

Girl

Recommended for intermediate players. Difficulty: ★★★☆☆

Designer's note: A young girl at the centre of a murder tragedy. She is an anxious student at Paranoia level 1, so you can think about the incident the same way as the Young Lady. She has three forbidden locations, but because of her Goodwill ability, moving her is very much in the Protagonist's favour. Nothing about her is unusually strange, but there are many small special elements. How you use them is where a Scriptwriter shows their skill.

Rule supplement

  • [Protagonist] Declare the use of the ability.

  • [Scriptwriter] During this loop, the Girl loses her forbidden locations.

  • [Protagonist] Choose one board adjacent to the board the Girl is currently on.

  • [Scriptwriter] Move the Girl to the chosen board. Note: if her first ability has not been used and a forbidden location remains, she cannot be moved.

Copycat

Recommended for advanced players. Difficulty: ★★★★★

Designer's note: Look at her hairstyle and clothing. Doesn't she look like someone? In fact, this one is the younger sibling of that one. Unlike her earnest elder sibling, she plays around at school. She has a crazy ability that rewrites the rules for script creation, which gives scripts new possibilities. How to use her is up to you. She can also be made a Person.

Rule supplement

  • [Protagonist] This ability cannot be used unless it is the second loop or later. Declare the use.
  • [Scriptwriter] Tell the names of all characters who have the same role as the Copycat. Because the ability targets characters, the names of dead bodies are not told. For example, if the Copycat is a Friend and the Friend's Salaryman and Doctor are alive, you tell them "she is imitating a Salaryman and a Doctor." (If the Copycat is a Person, this is a major matter.) If the Copycat is given a role that has Ignore Goodwill or Absolute Goodwill Refusal, this ability cannot be refused.

Guru

Recommended for intermediate players. Difficulty: ★★★☆☆

Designer's note: She is clearly the representative of a chaotic group. Her trait only functions if she is the culprit, so the script does not have to be complicated. When using her, keep in mind that the Paranoia threshold is set high. Always be aware of what happens when the incident count doubles. Her two Goodwill abilities are powerful, but they require a sense of unease. A script becomes interesting when you make use of the dilemma with the culprit.

Rule supplement

  • [Protagonist] Choose one of the other characters who has Paranoia counters at or above the Paranoia threshold. Only for characters whose Paranoia threshold is 0, the character may be chosen even if no Paranoia counter is on them.

  • [Scriptwriter] Place one Goodwill counter on the chosen character.

  • [Protagonist] Choose one of the other characters in the same location as the Guru who has Paranoia counters at or above the Paranoia threshold. Only for characters whose Paranoia threshold is 0, the character may be chosen even if no Paranoia counter is on them.

  • [Scriptwriter] Tell the role of the chosen character.

Sacred Tree

Recommended for intermediate players. Difficulty: ★★★☆☆

Designer's note: Something terrible has arrived. And in every location, the characters whose forbidden location is another location have all gathered! You will know immediately whether a Goodwill Refusal is present, even if Goodwill abilities are not. The triggering of a trait under Goodwill Refusal is forced, so be careful. On the first day, when a counter is placed and other people are present, everyone should point and confirm. Yosh!

Note: The booklet's rule supplement for Sacred Tree is not in this section. The rules text for the card is therefore not transcribed here; its use is shown in the booklet's sample scripts (booklet pages 4–7), which are not translated.

Protagonist Caution

The booklet's sample scripts for Girl, Copycat, Guru and Sacred Tree follow this section (booklet pages 4–7). The booklet warns: if you plan to join one of these scripts as a Protagonist player, do not read the following four pages, because they reveal the truth and you will no longer be able to take part as a Protagonist. Those who play as Scriptwriter, or who want a reference for writing their own scripts, should read them.

These sample scripts are not translated in this file. Players who want them should consult the Japanese booklet.
