Setup with the Expansion

The game with the expansion follows the base game rules, with the additional rules and features listed below.

  1. When preparing the board for 2, 3 or 4 players, you may use the new sectors from this expansion in place of the base game sectors Vortex, Research Lab, Mines or Fortress. You may make the swap of sectors of your choice, or choose them at random.

  2. When preparing the board for 5 players, randomly place six sectors — Vortex, Research Lab, Mines, Fortress, Hub and Shipwreck Bay — in the positions marked (X) in the diagram.

  3. Add the sector control, hunt and mineral tokens from this expansion to the tokens of the base game.

  4. When preparing the board for 5 players, place the sector control, hunt and mineral tokens on the additional sectors by the standard base game setup rules.

  5. If the Hub sector and/or the Shipwreck Bay sector is in play, shuffle the decks of these sectors separately and place each deck face down next to its sector on the board.

Take two cards from each of these decks and place them face up next to the corresponding decks, by the standard base game setup rules. [Unnumbered in the source; placed here as the continuation of step 5.]

  6. If the Hub sector is in play, place all mine tokens next to it. This is the common supply of these tokens.

  7. Place the System Fault card deck next to the game board. This is the common supply of these cards.

  8. Add the Shadow Hacker card to the Hunt deck.

  9. Add the Blackbeard card to the T-sector deck.

  10. When preparing the game for 5 players, the fifth player in turn order receives the starting components from this expansion, by the standard base game setup rules.

  11. At the start of the game, the fifth player in turn order takes five cards from their deck into hand.

Layout for 5 players: the diagram in the source shows the five-player board layout, with the six sectors, the tokens and the decks placed as described above.

New Sectors

Hub Sector

An information center controlling a large number of reconnaissance drones and satellites. Having a spaceship in this sector allows purchasing (X) cards. If a player controls the Hub sector and their spaceship is in this sector, they may, on their turn, explore one hunt target in any sector of the planet. Maximum sector defense value is 10.

Mine Placement Rules

During play, players may purchase mine cards in the Hub sector. After purchasing this card, the player places two mine tokens from the common supply into their cargo bay.

Each time a player plays a mine card, they may move one mine token from their cargo bay to the sector where their spaceship is located, and place a marker of their color on that token.

Any player who moves their spaceship into a sector with mine token(s) removes one such token from that sector, if there is no marker of their color on it. That player then moves a System Fault card from the common supply into their discard pile. The removed mine token is moved to the game box. If there are no System Fault cards left in the common supply, the owner of the removed mine token may choose any card removed from the game and move it into the discard pile of this player. [The source says "this player" without naming the subject more clearly; it is read here as the player who moved into the sector, which is the nearest antecedent.]

Moving and Attacking with Hunt Tokens

Moving hunt tokens. During play, players may purchase Psionic cards in the Hub sector. The ability of such a card allows moving one hunt token to an adjacent sector. Either an explored or an unexplored hunt token may be chosen for the move. Any number of hunt tokens may be in one sector.

Attacking with a hunt token. Or, the ability of this card allows the player to take control of any hunt token on the board in order to use it to attack an enemy spaceship located in the same sector. For the attack on a spaceship, either an explored or an unexplored hunt token may be chosen. If a player decides to attack an enemy spaceship with a hunt token, combat begins. The player points to the hunt token on the board; that player becomes the attacker, and the enemy spaceship becomes the defender.

Combat with a hunt token. The player who controls a hunt token uses in combat only the strength equal to the value shown on the shield symbol of the chosen hunt token. The attacking player may not play any additional abilities of cards or tokens! The defending player plays the combat by the standard rules.

Result of combat. If the attacker wins the combat, the defender loses 1 influence point, moves its token to the common supply, and destroys a random card that took part in the combat. If the combat was lost in a controlled sector, the defender does not lose control of its sector. If the defender wins the combat, it gains 1 influence point from the common supply. Whatever the outcome, the hunt token that took part in the combat is removed from the game and placed in the box!

Attention: If there are no hunt tokens left on the game board, a player who plays a Psionic card instead of using its ability randomly returns one hunt token removed from the game, and places it in one of the sectors furthest from the location of their spaceship. The token is placed exclamation-mark side up. When placing the token, the player is forbidden to look at its reverse side.

Shipwreck Bay Sector

A smugglers' lair, hidden from prying eyes by a giant EMP transmitter. Being in this sector allows purchasing (Б) cards. If a player controls the Shipwreck Bay sector and their spaceship is in it, they may, on their turn, move one System Fault card from the common supply into the discard pile of any player. Maximum sector defense value is 10.

Attention! If during the game the System Fault card deck runs out and a player needs to move a System Fault card into an opponent's discard pile, they may choose any card removed from the game and move it into that opponent's discard pile instead.

New Scenario: Monster Hunters

Changes to the base game rules:

  1. When capturing a hunt target, players gain as many influence points as indicated on the captured hunt token.

  2. When redeeming a Hunt card from hand, players gain 1 influence point.

Card and Component Notes

Stingray (spaceship card). Reserve 1 card from your hand. Draw 1 card. Allows you to hold and take from your cargo bay 2 reserved cards.

Blackbeard. You may capture one sector that contains your spaceship and no other spaceships, using [teal icon] instead of [Impulse icon]. [The brown icon matches the icon on the Impulse card. The teal icon is not named in the source text and could not be identified from the print, so it is left as a placeholder.]

Accelerator. Move your spaceship to one chosen sector within three sectors of its current location. [The base game English rulebook calls its starting card "Booster"; this card is printed «Ускоритель» and is rendered here as "Accelerator".]

Shadow Hacker (Hunt card). [sector icon] = number of sectors under your control. Move a System Fault card from the common supply to the discard pile of any player. [sector icon] = number of neutral sectors.

System Fault card. Spend [2 icons] to return this card to the common supply. This card cannot be destroyed or reserved!

Impulse card. Shows one Impulse icon and no ability text on the print.

Mining card. Shows the Mining icon.

Hunt tokens. False Signal («Ложный сигнал») and Shadow Hacker («Теневой хакер»). In combat, a hunt token contributes only the strength shown on its shield symbol (see Combat with a hunt token above).

Reference Sheet

The reference sheet is printed in English in the source. Icons are shown as [icon] where the glyph could not be identified from the print.

Translator's Notes

  • Step 5 of the setup has a box with the instruction to take two cards from each Hub and Shipwreck Bay deck. The box has no number in the source. It is placed here as the continuation of step 5.
  • The mine rule's sentence about the replacement card ("this player") is kept as printed, with the reading given in the text.
  • Card-face ability text on the ten Shipwreck Bay sector cards (including «Убийца» and «Электромагнитная пушка») and on the Hub sector cards other than the Psionic card is printed too small to read reliably in the source. It is not transcribed, and no rule has been inferred from it. The rules that govern these sectors are given in the sections above.
  • The icons on the Blackbeard card and the Shadow Hacker card, and the glyphs on the reference sheet, are not identified in the source text, so they are shown as placeholders.
