Object of the Game

Be the first player to start your campfire and toast three marshmallows before any other player. During play you want to keep your opponents from doing the same by putting out their fires or roasting their marshmallows to blackened crisps!

Start the Game

Each person gets one Firewood Disk (Note: On the back side is an image of a lit campfire.) and one Toasting Stick Disk (Note: On the other side of this disk is a two pronged toasting fork used later.)

After each person has a disk of each, set the remaining disks to the side. Make sure each disk is set with either the "Firewood – Light with Fire Starter" or the "Toasting Stick – Toast 1 Marshmallow" face up.

Brief Explanation of Game Play

When you first start the game, your number one goal is to get your fire started. To do this you need to get a Fire Starter Card. Once you have this card you can lay it on the Firewood Disk. This allows you to flip the disk over and have a campfire. The next challenge is to get a marshmallow on your toasting stick. To do this you must draw a raw Marshmallow Card and lay it on the stick. The final challenge of the game is to toast your marshmallow. To do this you must draw a Toasted Card and lay it on your raw Marshmallow Card. Once you have done this, move the Toasted Marshmallow Card into a pile that you will save. To win you need to do this three times. However, during play your opponents can try to stop you with a Rain Card, Strong Wind Card, or Roasted Card. The cards they play will rain on your Campfire, blow your fire out, or roast your marshmallow to a crisp. Good luck, and watch out for that Roasted Card!

Playing the Game

(Picnic Table board on the sheet, labelled Draw, Tool Box and Discard.)

Choose a dealer. The dealer shuffles the deck, deals four cards to each player, and places the remaining cards face down in the Draw pile on the Picnic Table. Players look at their cards but keep them secret from each other.

The youngest player goes first.

The player will start the turn by drawing a card from the Draw pile. At this point the player wants to get his or her fire started. To do this he needs to get a Fire Starter Card and place it on his Firewood Card. The player can then flip the wood over and the campfire is lit. The Fire Starter Card is then put into the discard pile. If this cannot be done then the player discards a card. The play then moves to the person to the left. If this player has a Fire Starter Card, he can lay it on his Firewood Card and flip the disk over. He now has a campfire! However, watch out because anyone who has a Strong Wind Card can play it before the next turn is over and put the fire out! After the player has laid one card down, his turn is over. The play then passes to the left.

Once a player has a fire started, several different actions can happen during play. The players who have a campfire will try to get Marshmallow Cards to lay down on their Toasting Sticks. Other players can then roast their marshmallows to a crisp or rain on their campfires. These cards must be played during their turns. Once you have a marshmallow and you get a Toasted Marshmallow Card, you can lay it on the raw Marshmallow Card during your turn and then move the Toasted Marshmallow Card to the save pile! The raw Marshmallow Card gets put into the Discard pile. At this point since you have a toasted marshmallow, you can flip over the Toasting Stick Disk to the Toasting Fork side and try to toast two marshmallows at a time.

There is also an area on the Picnic Table called the Tool Box. This Tool Box can be used during the game play. Occasionally players end up with several Fire Starter Cards in their hands. Instead of just throwing them away, they can discard them into the Tool Box pile. When another player wants to start a fire, he or she can choose a card from the Tool Box rather than from the Draw pile. If you pick from the Tool Box, your turn ends and you must wait to play it on your next turn.

Ending the Game

The first player to toast three marshmallows wins! If all the cards have been played from the Draw pile, shuffle the Discard pile to start a new Draw pile and keep playing.
