Components
- 26 terrain tiles: 6 mountains, 6 deserts, 6 grasslands, 6 forests, and 2 lakes
- 12 campfires: 6 X and 6 O
- 1 bag
Getting Ready
Empty the tiles from the tin into the bag, divide the campfires into their different shapes and assign one shape to each player.
Remove two tiles at random from the bag, and place them next to each other in the middle of the play area. One tile should have the X side up, one the O side up.
How to Play
Draw tiles at random from the bag and place them next to matching terrains. Try to make 3-in-a-row matching your campfire shape (X or O), using any mix of terrain tiles.
Whenever you make 3-in-a-row, place a campfire. At the end of the game, each campfire scores 1 point for every empty space around it (including diagonally).
The player who most recently went on a trek goes first.
Winning the Game
The player who scores the most points wins and is named "Top Trekker".
Taking a Turn
1) Draw and Place a Tile
Draw a tile at random from the bag, and flip it so that your side (either X or O) is face-up.
Place the tile next to a tile with a matching terrain or next to a wild lake tile. If there are no matching tiles or lakes, you may place it next to any other tile.
Lake tiles are wild, and can be placed next to any other terrain type, matching or otherwise.
2) Make 3-in-a-Row
If you make 3-in-a-row (either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, using any mix of terrain tiles), you must place one of your 6 campfires onto the tile you played this turn. If you make two 3-in-a-rows at once, only place one campfire.
If you make more than six 3-in-a-rows, you may move one of your previously placed campfires onto the tile you played this turn. Once a campfire has been placed on a tile, its X or O cannot be used in subsequent 3-in-a-rows.
Scoring
Once all of the tiles have been placed, the game ends and it's time to score.
Each campfire scores points equal to the number of empty spaces around it (including diagonally), anywhere from 0–7 points.
If both players have the same number of points, the player who placed most campfires wins. If both players have placed the same number of campfires, the player who took the final turn loses.
