Object of the Game

To be the first player to rescue two Princesses and return them safely to the village.

Contents

  • 1 Playing board
  • 4 Playing Pieces
  • 4 'Garlic' cards
  • 2 Six sided dice (1 red, 1 black)
  • 1 Four sided dice
  • 1 Eight sided dice
  • 1 Vampire
  • 1 Ink Pad
  • 8 Princess stickers
  • 8 Princess counters
  • 1 Set of Rules

Getting Ready

  1. Stick the princesses faces to the yellow counters.
  2. Place the playing pieces on their correct starting place in the village (red on red circle etc.)
  3. Put the Vampire on the bat square marked with the Vampire's face.
  4. Put the eight Princesses on the castle window square.
  5. Put two garlic cards on each of the spaces marked on the board next to the castle.
  6. Choose the Vampire dice — this depends on the number of players:
    • For 4 players use the 4 sided dice.
    • For 3 players use the 6 sided dice (black).
    • For 2 players use the 8 sided dice.

How to Play

  1. Choose who is to start, play then continues in a clockwise direction.
  2. Each player throws 2 dice — the red one to move his playing piece and the appropriate black one (see 6 — Getting Ready) to move the Vampire.

The Vampire always moves anti-clockwise and can only move on the bat-squares. The players can move in any direction in any one go.

Having thrown the dice, you then decide:

a) to move the Vampire first. OR — b) to move your player first. OR — c) to move only the Vampire, leaving your player where it was.

There can only be one player on a square at a time. If a player lands on a square occupied by another player, or by the Vampire, he moves on to the next free square.

Note

More than one player at a time can be in the castle to take a Princess.

The Vampire

  1. When the Vampire passes a square with a player on it, he lands on that square. If that player has a Garlic card (see Garlic cards), he puts the card back onto its space on the board, returns to his starting place in the village, but escapes the Vampire's bite. If he does not have a Garlic card — the Vampire bites!
  2. The player who moved the Vampire, takes off the Vampire's hat and places it on the square where he landed as a marker, and then stamps the hand of the player who has been 'bitten'. See fig. 1.
  3. A player who is 'bitten' 3 times is out of the game.
  4. If a player is out of the game, change the Vampire dice accordingly to match the number of players (see note 6 Getting Ready).
  5. When you have 'stamped' another player, you have another go, throwing both dice as normal. If this leads to another attack, follow the rules as above.

Note

No player can have more than 3 consecutive turns.

  1. During your own turn, you can move the Vampire over your own player (or player over Vampire) without coming to any harm — but they cannot both land on the same square at the end of the move.

Garlic Cards

These protect you from the Vampire's bite.

  1. You choose whether to go directly to the castle or to make a detour to collect a garlic card.
  2. If you are attacked by the Vampire, a garlic card will save you from the bite — Replace the card on its space and return to the village and start again.
  3. You do not have to throw the exact number to land on a garlic square — as long as you pass over it you can take a garlic card.

Note

A player can only hold one garlic card at a time.

The Rescue

  1. As soon as you reach the square at the castle door, you can take one Princess from the window. An exact number on the dice is NOT required.
  2. Return the Princess to your home base, leave her there and return to the castle to rescue a second Princess.

But

If you encounter the Vampire on the way back to the village, the princess returns to the castle IMMEDIATELY, even if you have a garlic card — The normal rules for stamping etc then apply.

End of the Game

The Winner is the player who is the first to rescue 2 Princesses, or the last player to survive (i.e. all the others have been bitten 3 times).

Ink Pad — Important Note

The ink should not be used on clothing or material, but in the event of it accidentally marking clothing, wash the garment immediately, following the manufacturers washing instructions. (In the absence of washing instructions wash garment in warm water and detergent).

Fig. 1 on the printed sheet shows the Vampire's hand stamp being applied to the bitten player's hand; the illustration is not transcribed.
