2-4 players begin their journey through the labyrinth in the chambers in the outer part of the labyrinth (matching the color of their piece).
Before the game starts, the treasure, troll and fantasy creature cards are shuffled together, and the top card of this pile is turned face up (hereafter the "current" card). These images are also printed on the game board, and in turn players must try to reach these places in the labyrinth. If a player reaches the matching image first, he takes the card and must turn over the next card from the deck.
On his turn, a player may rotate the rings as follows:
- The outer or middle ring by two positions.
- The outer or middle ring by one position.
- The inner ring is free, and one of the others by one position.
After these rotations of the labyrinth rings, the player may move his piece along the corridors as far as he wishes, provided that the corridor leads to the place he wants to reach. If the player arrives at a place where the image of the current card is printed, the player takes the card and turns the top card of the deck face up.
The cards have different values:
- If it is a troll or a treasure, such a card brings the player one step closer to victory.
- Fantasy creatures do not add victory points. Instead, they allow the player to take one additional turn, if he wishes, or he may blindly draw one of the opponent's cards.
The player who manages to collect all 6 trolls or treasures wins the game.
Since there are only 6 trolls and 6 treasures, there will certainly be conflicts between players.
Whenever a player moves onto the same space as another player, he may "invite" that player to a duel (a game of rock-paper-scissors). First, the "attacker" names which cards (trolls or treasures) the two will compete for. He must then decide whether they will play for only one card or for a random number of cards between 1 and 4 (determined by rolling a die). Then the duel takes place: each player has a small stone, a piece of paper and a pair of scissors. Each player secretly chooses one of them and holds it in his hand under the table. Then both players simultaneously show the item they chose. If they chose the same item, they must choose again. Otherwise:
- Rock blunts scissors. Rock wins!
- Scissors cut paper. Scissors win!
- Paper wraps rock. Paper wins!
After the winner is determined, he receives the stated number of cards from the loser (but only if the loser has cards from that group!).
