Set-Up
Like the other advanced monsters in the Night Cage, these new monsters can be mixed and matched with the other monsters in the base game.
Set your pool of monsters to include 6 Wax Eaters, 4 Light Eaters and 2 Pathbreakers and shuffle them into the tile stack.
If you want to create your own mix of monsters from these and the other advanced monsters in the base game, remember to remove a Wax Eater for every other kind of monster you add (except Omens).
Of course if you're looking for a challenge, adding advanced monsters without removing Wax Eaters will make the game much more difficult.
Light Eaters
When a Prisoner draws a Light Eater, it activates immediately. The Light Eater's attack causes one Prisoner who isn't adjacent to any other Prisoners to go lights out. These prisoners are referred to as "isolated." The active player decides who will be affected. The Light Eater's target can be any isolated prisoner, including the prisoner who drew it. After resolving this effect, the active player flips the Light Eater tile and places it as a pit (if they are still lit).
Important Notes
- If all prisoners are adjacent to each other when the Light Eater is discovered it has no effect and is immediately placed as a pit instead.
- If a prisoner is already Lights Out, they cannot be targeted by a Light Eater's attack. The Light Eater will choose another target.
- If a prisoner falls onto a Light Eater tile when landing after a pit jump, they go lights out even if adjacent to another player. Then, the monster performs its attack on a lit, isolated prisoner as well. The same is true for anyone walking into one when lights out. It then turns into a pit, forcing the prisoner occupying the tile to fall into the pit. You cannot scramble.
Pathbreakers
When a Pathbreaker is drawn, the active prisoner must place it so one of its faces points at them. Pathbreakers do not attack when revealed. Once placed, a Pathbreaker is motion-activated like a Wax Eater, attacking when a player moves into or out of its line of sight. However, a Pathbreaker's line of sight is limited to the two directions of its faces.
When a Pathbreaker attacks, it turns every tile in a straight line from its faces into a pit regardless of walls, pits or open spaces. If the Pathbreaker is still lit after it attacks, it turns into a pit.
Important Notes
- If a prisoner lands on a Pathbreaker for any reason, they must discard 3 tiles from the draw stack as a penalty. Additionally, the Pathbreaker forces them to fall as it turns into a pit.
- If a prisoner lands on a Pathbreaker from falling, the Pathbreaker attacks the row the prisoner chose to land in and then turns into a pit, causing them to fall again.
- If a prisoner draws a Pathbreaker while Lights Out, the Pathbreaker attacks the row in the direction the prisoner moved from.
