Components

The 4 Heroes are the squad captains, each represented by 1 Card and 1 coloured Marker. Each Hero has its Technique, its Talent, and starts the game with 2 Supports in hand.

The 31 Supports represent the squads and equipment sent to Mars. Each Support has 1 acquisition cost and 1 Effect, which is activatable for squads or permanent for equipment.

The 15 Cockroaches form the threat to be eliminated. Each has Health points, a Talent, and yields Victory Points as well as optional secondary loot.

The 6 combat dice are rolled to determine the Hero's actions on their turn. The Special Die is used occasionally to strengthen actions.

  • 12 Star tokens (value 1)
  • 42 Wound tokens (values 1, 3 and 5)
  • 30 Victory Point tokens (values 1, 3 and 5)

Glossary (icons): Wound, Star, Serum, Danger, Victory Point, Support.

Setup

  1. Each player chooses a Hero card, takes the corresponding Marker and the 2 Supports associated with that Hero.
  2. Shuffle the remaining Supports, form a face-down draw pile, and reveal 3 Supports.
  3. Shuffle the Cockroaches and form a face-down draw pile (remove 6 Cockroaches at 2 players, or 3 Cockroaches at 3 players), then reveal as many Cockroaches as there are players.
  4. Place the Special Die and the Victory Point, Star and Wound tokens near the play area.
  5. Each player places their Marker on 1 free Cockroach (starting with the last player and ending with the first player).
  6. The first player receives the 6 combat dice and begins the game.

Objective

Players must gain Victory Points by eliminating as many Cockroaches as possible.

The game ends when a defeated Cockroach can no longer be replaced by another one (the Cockroach draw pile is empty).

The player with the most Victory Points wins the game.

Turn Sequence

On their turn, each player, taking turns clockwise:

  1. Rolls the 6 combat dice.
  2. Spends the Stars and Serums on their dice to:
    • roll the Special Die against 3 Serums;
    • activate their Hero's Technique;
    • acquire 1 Support.
  3. Inflicts all the Wounds from their dice on the Cockroach they are fighting.
  4. Passes the combat dice to their left-hand neighbour (end of turn).

Dice

On their turn, the player rolls the combat dice (Dés de combat) and gets a result made up of Stars, Serums, Wounds and Dangers.

The Special Die (Dé Spécial) increases the number of icons obtained during the turn.

A Star or a Serum that is spent locks its die, which can no longer be re-rolled.

Stars and Serums that are not used during the turn are lost.

Heroes

On their turn, the player may activate their Technique several times, spending each time the resources indicated (Stars and Serums).

The Talent is permanent; be careful not to forget to use it.

The 2 starting Supports return to the common discard pile when played, and they will then be available to everyone if the draw pile is formed again.

Supports

On their turn, the player may acquire Supports by spending the resources indicated (Stars and possibly Serums). In that case, a new Support drawn from the draw pile is revealed in the empty slot. If the draw pile is empty, it is formed again by shuffling all the Supports from the discard pile.

Equipment is placed near the Hero; its effect is active for the turn and the following turns until it is destroyed.

A squad Support joins the player's hand and may be played at any time during the game. Once played, its effect is activated and the card is discarded.

Note: several Supports may be played in a row; their effects are then activated in the reverse order in which they were played.

Cockroaches

When a Cockroach is wounded, Wound tokens are placed on it.

If a player inflicts the last Wound on a Cockroach, that Cockroach:

  1. gives the Victory Points indicated;
  2. shares its secondary loot among the other players present with it;
  3. is removed from the game and a new one is revealed in its place;
  4. has its Marker placed on a Cockroach (even one occupied by an opponent), followed by the other players (clockwise).

Notes:

  • If the player is alone on the Cockroach, the secondary loot is lost.
  • A player can only inflict Wounds on 1 Cockroach per turn (their objective).

Each Cockroach has 1 permanent Talent to take into account at the start or end of a turn. Some Talents only activate if the player obtains a Danger on their dice roll.

Example

Nicolas fights a Cockroach that is already wounded (4 Health points remaining); this Cockroach ignores 1 Wound per Danger obtained.

On the roll, Nicolas obtains the following result:

  • 5 Stars
  • 2 Serums
  • 2 Wounds
  • 2 Dangers
  1. Nicolas acquires 1 Support (2 Stars) and puts it directly into his hand.
  2. He activates his Hero's Technique (3 Stars + 1 Serum) in order to ignore the Talent of the Cockroach he is fighting, so the Dangers are not effective.
  3. Before inflicting the 2 Wounds, Nicolas plays 1 Support from his hand, giving him 3 additional Wounds, bringing the total to 5 Wounds.
  4. Cyril plays his Support "Kanako Sanjo", allowing him to move his Marker onto the Cockroach that Nicolas is about to defeat.
  5. The Cockroach is defeated and Nicolas gains 3 Victory Points; then Cyril obtains all the secondary loot (2 Wound tokens and 1 Victory Point).
  6. The Cockroach is removed from the game and 1 new one replaces it; Nicolas places his Marker on a Cockroach in play, followed by Cyril.
  7. Nicolas ends his turn; the unused Serum is lost.
