Table of Contents
Components
- 2 sheet pads
- 4 jimador boards
- 1 cask tile
- 1 coaster tile
- 2 dice
- 4 pencils
Setup
- Deal each player:
- A sheet from each pad.
- A jimador board, side A face up.
- A pencil.
- Place the cask tile, side A face up, in the center of the table.
- The player who most recently had an iced drink will be the starting player. Give them the 2 dice and the coaster tile.
Objective
Improve your farm and gain resources to produce different tequila varieties. The player with the most prestige after 8 rounds will be the winner.
Game Round
At the beginning of the round, the starting player rolls both dice and may re-roll one, both or none of them. Then, they place them on the appropriate spaces of the cask tile. Simultaneously, all players use the dice to perform the associated actions. Additionally, each player has a "virtual" die that they can assign to any of the two actions. Players mark the resources given by the dice on the cask tile (if applicable).
Example: Pepe rolls a 2 and a 3, decides to re-roll the 2 and rolls a 4. He places the 3 and 4 on their respective places. Each player gains a worker from the die showing the number 3.
Pepe decides to use his virtual die to perform more building actions so, this round, he has 1 die for the fencing action and 2 dice for the building action.
Rubén, on the other hand, chooses to use his virtual die for fences. Then, he has 2 dice for the fencing action and 1 die for the building action.
At any moment of the round, you may perform any free actions. Each round has as many free actions as the amount of free-action gears (the gear symbol) of the current round. Each time you perform a free action, cross out one gear as a reminder of it. There are two types of free actions: producing tequila or making a sale on the market.
At any time of the round, you may pay any four resources to perform an additional free action.
Once all players have finished using the dice and free actions, the round ends. Check your jimador board to gain the end of round bonuses if you fulfill their requirements.
Cross out the sun (round marker) of the current round and the player with the coaster passes it to the player to their left, who becomes the new starting player for the next round.
Resource Track
When gaining resources, draw a vertical line on the leftmost unmarked space of that resource type. If the square you mark shows a coin, you gain it. If in the coin track you mark a square with a gem symbol, you gain a resource of your choice. When using a resource from the resource track, cross it out.
Actions
There are two actions: the fencing action and the building action.
Fencing Action
Gain and draw fences on any available segment around a field. With one die, you gain 4 fences; with two dice, 6; and with three dice, 8.
When fencing off a zone of one or more fields, gain immediately (and only once) each resource depicted by the fenced off fields. There can only be one house in each fenced off field. You may leave fields unfenced between rounds.
Building Action
You can build on any arid terrain of your farm paying the resources indicated by your jimador board. Once paid, draw the appropriate building type's shape. You can rotate and/or flip the shape. Roads are the only type of building that can be built on water spaces.
Each arid zone surrounded by water in your farm is a section. When filling all of the spaces of a section of your farm, you gain 1 coin. If you are the first one to do so, you also gain the prestige points indicated (encircle them to show this). If more than one player completes the same section in the same round, all players gain the prestige points.
A few buildings require being connected adjacently or by roads to gain their bonuses.
When building on a space showing a resource, gain that resource.
Buildings
- Road. It costs 2 resources of your choice (any resource between worker, barrel, water, donkey, or agave). They are used to connect buildings on different sections of your farm (connection symbol) or to fill detached spaces. A road space connects all buildings and roads adjacent to it.
- Agave field. It costs 2 agaves. For every 2 agave fields, produce 1 agave at the end of a round.
- Kiln. It costs 1 donkey and 1 worker. When connecting it to an agave field for the first time, gain 1 water. For every 2 kilns, produce 1 water at the end of a round. You can connect more than one kiln to a single agave field.
- Distiller. It costs 1 agave and 1 water. When connecting it to a kiln for the first time, you gain 3 barrels. You can connect more than one distiller to a single kiln.
- Cask. It costs 1 agave and 1 donkey. At the end of a round, you may pay 1 agave to gain 1 barrel for each cask connected to a different distiller. You can connect more than one cask to a single distiller.
- Shop. It costs 1 agave and 1 worker. When connecting it to a cask for the first time, you gain 2 coins. At the end of a round, you may pay 1 resource of your choice to gain 1 coin for each shop connected to a cask. You may connect more than one shop to a single cask.
Free Actions
There are two types of free actions: producing tequila or making a sale on the market.
Selling on the Market
Choose any free market sale space, starting with the leftmost ones. Pay the indicated resource or show that you have fulfilled the requirement indicated by the space and mark it; gain 1 resource of your choice immediately. At the end of the game, marked shops will give you prestige points.
You can choose and pay for any space that's connected to an already marked space.
If you are the first player to reach columns 4, 6 or 8, gain the bonus shown in the lower part. If more than one player would gain the same bonus in the same round, all players gain it.
Producing Tequila
Choose the type of tequila you want to produce and pay the indicated resources. Each type of tequila requires you to have at least a connected building of the indicated type.
The four tequila types are shown on the production track of the jimador board as bottle icons, from top to bottom: white, cream, pink and red bottle. Each row shows the building required and the resources to pay:
- White bottle: a connected kiln, and 1 barrel.
- Cream bottle: a connected distiller, and 1 barrel.
- Pink bottle: a connected cask, 1 water, and 1 barrel.
- Red bottle: a connected shop, 1 agave, 1 water, and 1 barrel.
Editor's note: the printed text does not list the per-row costs; they are read from the production track graphic on page 5. Each barrel on the track is drawn with a diagonal red strike that the printed rules do not explain; it is transcribed here as a barrel cost.
Then, mark the leftmost unmarked square of that type of tequila. If, when producing tequila, you are the first one to reach the bonus space of that type of tequila, gain 1 coin and mark the indicated prestige points (shown on the bonus space). If more than one player would gain the same prestige points bonus in the same round, all of those players gain them along with the coin.
When producing a tequila of each type, mark the leftmost unmarked square of the tequila collection track and gain 1 coin. Only the first four collections give you prestige points and coins.
End of the Game and Scoring
When the eighth round ends, the players see who made the most tequila of each type and who made the most market sales.
In games with 3 or more players, the player who made the most tequilas of a type gains the points of the left column and whoever made the second most, gains the points of the right column. In the case of a tie, both values are added and are divided evenly (rounded down) between the tied players and the next place gains nothing. The player who has marked the most shops gains 20 points, the player in the next place gains 14 points (ties are resolved in the same manner as with the tequilas).
In games with 2 players, the player who made the most tequilas of each type gains the points of the right column. In the case of a tie, tied players divide evenly (rounded down) the points of the right column. The player who marked the most shops gains 14 points. Ties are resolved in the same manner as with the tequilas.
Additionally, each player gains extra points as follows:
- A point for each uncrossed free action.
- The highest prestige value reached in the coin track.
- The highest prestige value reached in the production track of each type of tequila.
- The highest prestige value reached in the tequila collection track.
- Each farm section completed before anyone else.
- Each marked market space.
The player with the most points wins! In the case of a tie, the player who collected the most resources from fenced off fields wins. If the tie persists, victory is shared.
Variants
Asymmetric Jimadores Variant
During setup, flip your jimador board to the B side. The costs, bonuses and dice usage change for everyone.
- Purple jimador: Can place more fences.
- Red jimador: Can build more. He only requires one building for the end of round bonuses instead of two.
- Orange jimadora: She gains more resources when connecting buildings.
- Green jimadora: Each market space requirement is decreased by 1 (even to 0). When fulfilling shop requirements, gain 2 resources of your choice instead of 1.
Cask Variant
During setup, flip the cask tile to the B side. The benefits of the dice are different from the base game and, when assigning your virtual die, you get an extra benefit (1 fence or 1 road).
5 or More Players Variant
Since there are not enough jimador boards, place one of them next to the cask tile, side A up, as a reference. There is no starting player, so any player can roll the dice at the beginning of the round since they are not re-rolled.
You only compete against the players to your left and right for the most tequila produced and the most market sales. You only gain the points of the right column.
Solo Mode Variant
You are always the starting player. When the game ends, you can gain the points of the second column of the tequila final scoring and, to do so, you must reach 6 tequilas of a type. You must mark 12 market spaces to gain 14 points.
Scoring chart:
- 0-119: Clear tequilero
