Setup

Take 3 six-sided dice, and give a game sheet and a pencil to each player. From 4 to 6 players, take 4 dice instead of 3.

Draw your tanuki on your sheet.

The last player who organised a party will be the first player.

Playing the Game

Take turns clockwise, starting with the first player.

On your turn, roll all the dice. Choose one die which you place in front of you and use it. Then all other players choose one die from the remaining dice. Multiple players may choose the same die.

Once every player has used a die, turn then proceeds to the next player who rolls all the dice.

Note: After rolling the dice, if you can't use any die, still take one die in front of you, then circle a flower.

Use a die with a value of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 to obtain one watermelon, one pineapple, one banana, one fig or one strawberry: Circle a fruit in the corresponding column, on the line of your choice.

IMPORTANT: You don't have to circle the fruits from top to bottom.

Warning! When there are multiple fruits of the same type on the same line, you must circle them from left to right following the arrows.

Use a die with a value of 6 OR if you cannot use any die: To invite Granny to the party, circle one sakura flower. You have to circle the flowers from top to bottom following the arrows.

The Effects

When you circle an item with an effect you must apply the effect immediately. It's possible to chain several effects together in the same turn. If you can't use an effect, it's lost!

  • Fruit bonus (one of the five fruit icons: watermelon, pineapple, banana, fig, strawberry): Circle the fruit indicated on the line of your choice.
  • Flower bonus (sakura flower): Circle one flower.
  • Tanuki bonus (tanuki): Circle one tanuki in the column of your choice.
  • Tanuki penalty (crossed-out tanuki): Cross out an already circled tanuki in the column of your choice. Note that at the beginning of the game there are already one or more tanuki circled in each column.
  • Line bonus +2, +3, +4: As soon as you have circled all the fruits of a line, circle the line bonus.
  • Granny bonus (Granny): Simply circle the Granny bonus.
  • Torii effect (torii gate): Circle one torii following the arrows. When you circle the last torii, the game ends.

End of the Game

The game ends at the end of the turn when a player circles the last torii OR when a player manages to invite Granny by circling the last sakura flower.

In each column multiply the number of circled fruits by the number of circled tanuki in the same column.

Add up the circled line bonuses and multiply them by the number of circled Granny bonuses.

For example: Mary has circled the line bonuses +3 and +4. Which makes: 3 + 4 = 7. In addition, Mary circled 3 Granny. So Mary earns: 7 x 3 = 21 points.

Finally, add up all your points. The player with the most points is the winner. In case of a tie, there is a tie!

Solo Mode

Play with 3 dice. The game also ends when you circle the last torii or the last flower. Get the highest possible score. The world record is 116 points!

7 Players and More

With a large group of players, play with 3 dice. On your turn, you cannot keep a dice just for yourself. All players may choose to use any of the 3 dice.
