Idea of the Game

In Table Cooking, you assume the role of a head chef competing against one another to be the pinnacle of his/her career. Players choose to perform one of various actions to make wonderful dishes to the customers and get points. When the kitchen closes, whoever has the most victory points will crown the best chef of the restaurant.

Menu Card Info

A menu card shows: the number of kitchen tiles needed, the cooking points, the needed ingredients, the name, and the type of the menu.

Setting Up the Game

  1. Place the Market board in the middle of the table.
  2. Place the ingredient tokens equal to the number of players plus 2 to the matching supply space on the Market board. (The example is for 3 players.)
  3. Place each ingredient cost token on the "5" space of the cost track.
  4. Give 1 Starter kitchen to everyone.
  5. Shuffle the secret mission deck and deal each player 3 cards. Keep only 1 card, and put the rest back in the box.
  6. Shuffle the menu deck and deal each player 3 cards. Keep at least 1 cards, and shuffle the others back into the menu deck.
  7. Deal 4 face-up menu cards next to the menu deck. This is called "Menu row".
  8. Look at the first ingredient of the first 3 menu cards on the Menu row. Move the cost of matching ingredients up 1 step. If that ingredient was already moved up by the previous card, use the second or third ingredient instead. Continue this method until 3 ingredient cost tokens are moved up. Then move all other ingredient cost tokens down 1 step.
  9. Each player receives 30 TC.
  10. Set aside Level 2 and 3 upgraded Kitchen tiles.

How to Play

On your turn, choose 1 out of these 4 actions:

Shopping

Choose 1 type of ingredient from the market and buy up to 2 ingredients and put them in your refrigerator. Then, you must raise the cost of the ingredient you've just bought by 1 and lower one-of-your-choice ingredient cost by 1. You may not lower the ingredient cost of the ingredient you've just bought. Buying occurs one after another. In other words, paying the current ingredient cost, gaining that ingredient and put it in the refrigerator, raising the cost of the ingredient by 1, lowering one-of-your-choice ingredient cost by 1 and then repeat this step if you buy the second token. If your refrigerator is full, you can choose to return the ingredient of your choice to the Market.

Important: If the cost of the ingredient is at 10, no raising cost is needed, but you still need to lower another ingredient cost. If a player lower the cost to 2, he also gains 1 TC.

Example: A player performs Shopping action, and wants to buy 2 seafood, He must pay 12 TC (5 TC for the first, and 7 TC for another one) - the cost goes up immediately after buying the first seafood. After that, he chooses to lower Chicken along with Flour and Egg 1 step each. He, then, gains 1 TC because Flour and Egg just reached cost of 2.

Reserve a Menu

Choose 1 of the following choices:

  • Take 1 face-up menu card from the Menu row.
  • Draw 1 menu card from the top of the menu deck.
  • Spend 3 TC to move all cards to the bottom of the deck. Then, reveal the top 4 cards face up, and take 1 among them.

There should be 4 cards available at all times: immediately fill the space when it's empty.

Important: Each player is limited to 5 menu cards. You cannot choose this action if you cannot take a menu card.

Upgrade Kitchen

Spend 10 TC (For your very first game, we recommend only 5 TC), then choose 1 Kitchen tile and place it on the corresponding space on your kitchen. Each upgraded tile can be placed in your kitchen only once.

Important: Level 3 kitchen tiles can be placed, once all level-2 tiles are fully furnished.

Income

Gain 10 TC from the reserve.

Cooking [Free action]

This action can be performed once before or after a normal action. Cook 1 menu from your hand or from the menu row beside the Market board. The requirement must be met regarding the ingredients and the number of upgraded kitchen tiles. Simply return the ingredients back to the market, and place that menu in front of you, and immediately receive TC equal to the cooking point (red ribbon on the top right).

The "UP" symbol on a menu means that you need that number of upgraded kitchen tiles in order to cook this menu.

Example: Japanese Curry Rice requires 1 upgraded kitchen tile and 1 meat. Player A has his refrigerator upgraded and 1 meat token in it. Therefore, he meets all the requirements and returns 1 meat back, places the card in front of him, and receives 6 TC.

Ability of the Kitchen Tile

  • When you perform "Reserve a Menu" action, you may do it twice on each turn.
  • When you perform "Cooking" free action, you may do it twice on each turn.
  • When you perform "Shopping" action, you may buy 2 different types of ingredients (to the total of 2 ingredients, not 4). By all means, those 2 ingredient cost cannot be lowered this turn.
  • Expanding the refrigerator allows you to store more ingredients.
  • Each upgraded kitchen tile scores points at the end of the game (printed on the tile).

Game End

When a player cooks the 7th menu, the end of the game is triggered. Finish the current round. This ensures that all players have played the same number of turns. Then, move to final scoring.

Final Scoring

  1. Total of the points on all the completed menu cards.
  2. 10 points, if you cooked at least 1 menu of each type (Appetizer, Soup, Main Course, Dessert).
  3. Total of the points on all the upgraded kitchen tiles.
  4. 1 point for each ingredient left in your refrigerator.
  5. Points from your secret mission card.
  6. -2 points for each menu card left in your hand.

The player with the most points wins! In case of a tie, the player who has completed the most menu cards wins. If there is still a tie, the player with the most money leftover wins. If there is still a tie, all tied players share the victory.
