Overview
Task of the game: build the biggest burger according to your own recipe.
Goal of the game: score the maximum number of points. The more fillings your burger has, the more points you score: one card equals one point. Fillings are counted at the end of the game.
Components: 2-10 players (ideal for 4-7 players). Playing time 20-45 minutes. 144 cards plus a hint card: 16 heroes × 4 colours × 2 copies, and 16 buns (4 colours × 4 copies).
Card Types
Tasty Fillings
Cards with tasty fillings are: cucumbers, lettuce, cheese, pineapple, bacon, fried egg, and tomato. Tasty fillings have no special properties and are played under the general rules.
Hot Cards
Besides the tasty fillings, Super Burger has hot cards marked with a flame icon. These are special action cards, the main of which are the flies, which love burgers.
The hot cards are: bun, onion, sauce, patty, double patty, salt, mushrooms, hungry fly, hot pepper, and box.
Bun – the preparation of a burger begins and ends with a bun. If a player already has an assembled burger, then on their turn they may play a bun onto their own burger, provided a fly has already eaten the previous bun. The new bun must match the colour of the top card of the burger being assembled.
Onion* – the next player, with tears in their eyes, skips their turn (if two onions are played at the same time, two players skip their turns, and so on). If a player skips a turn, a fly also skips it and does not eat the burger's filling.
Sauce* – reverses the direction of play.
*When playing with two players, the player who played this card takes two turns.
Patty – plus one card from the deck. If a player plays a patty, they take a card from the deck.
Double patty – plus two cards from the deck.
Hot pepper – flies do not like it. When a fly runs into it, the fly eats the pepper and flies off to the discard pile.
Box** – packs up a burger. If a player covers a burger with a bun in order to take it, any other player may try to intercept this burger for themselves by covering it with a box matching the colour of the bun.
Diagram "Capturing a burger": a finished burger is covered with a box.
A box can enclose one fly. In that case the fly and the box are discarded together. If a new fly arrives, it needs its own box.
During play you may always use the hint card, which describes the values of the hot cards.
**If you are playing with small children, this function may be left out.
Salt** – you salted your opponent: you may swap your prepared burger with another player's burger. Flies fly over together with the burgers.
Mushrooms – a two-colour card; use either colour.
Hungry fly – it can be played onto a burger, and every round the fly eats one filling, starting from the bun (at the moment the turn returns to the player whose burger it is eating). The player first discards the top filling from their burger into the discard pile, and then takes their turn.
Any number of flies may be played onto one burger; then the burger shrinks faster. One fly can eat only one burger; after eating it, the fly flies off to the discard pile.
The fly card has a white border, so it can be played at any moment during your own turn. Only a box protects against a fly.
Game Sequence
-
Shuffle the cards and deal 7 to each player.
-
Players take turns clockwise. Preparation of a burger begins with a bun. The player who dealt the cards places the bun. If they do not have one, the next player places the bun. If nobody has a bun, everyone in turn takes one card from the deck, starting with the player who dealt the cards, until a bun turns up. Fillings are played onto the bun, then the next filling onto that, and so on.
-
On your turn, play either a card of the same colour or a card of the same filling, as shown in the example. On the same turn you may also play a double filling: two identical cards, including cards of different colours.
Exception: the top bun, a fly and a box need not be played immediately, even if there is nothing else to play. It is better to pass the turn and wait for the right moment.
-
If a player has nothing to play, they take one card from the deck. If it fits, they play it right away. If a player decides that the burger being assembled is already super-big, on their turn they may close it with a bun of matching colour and place the finished burger in front of themselves (unless an opponent intercepts it).
-
Play continues, and all players start assembling the next burger from a new bun. The player who captured a burger also takes part in preparing the new one. Like everyone else, they may close it with a bun at any moment to keep it.
When closing a burger in this way, the player must pass the first burger they assembled to their neighbour, whose turn should come next. If that neighbour already has a finished burger of their own, it passes to the next player who does not yet have a burger. Flies pass together with the burger.
If at some point a player runs out of cards in hand, they take 7 new cards from the deck and continue the game.
-
The game ends when all players have prepared (assembled) one burger each, or when the cards in the deck run out and no one can make a next move.
Winning the Game
Counting of the cards in the prepared burgers is done by all players simultaneously at the end of the game. During play, the fillings in a burger may not be counted.
Only the cards in the assembled burgers are counted; cards in hand are not counted. Flies are not counted in the score either.
Whoever assembled the Super Burger wins the game! That player shuffles the cards and goes first.
In disputed situations, the decision rests with the owner of the game.
Two-Player Game
If you play with two players, each player may assemble two burgers. The fillings of both burgers are added together at the end of the game.
If a player assembles a third burger, they must give away the first one.
