Each Field tile has a Vegetable face and a Pasture face.
Setup
Depending on the number of Farmers, randomly remove the following elements and put them back in the box:
- 3 Farmers: remove 3 Client cards, 4 Sheep tiles, 4 Cow tiles, and 4 Pig tiles.
- 2 Farmers: remove 6 Client cards, 8 Sheep tiles, 8 Cow tiles, and 8 Pig tiles.
- Place the board in the center of the table.
- Shuffle the Client cards to form a face-down deck and place it on its dedicated space on the board. Reveal the top 5 Client cards and place them on their dedicated spaces as well.
- Shuffle the Reputation tiles and place 4 of them face up on the dedicated spaces of the board. Also deal 1 face up to each Farmer, and put the rest back in the box.
- Place a Medal of the indicated value on each of the dedicated spaces below the Client cards. Keep the rest of the Medals within reach.
- Each Farmer chooses a set of 3 starting tiles and a Wheelbarrow.
- Shuffle the Sheep tiles to form a face-down Pasture-face draw pile and place it on the board's dedicated space, then place the first three tiles Vegetable-face up on the spaces of the top row. Do the same with the Pig tiles on the middle row and the Cow tiles on the bottom row.
- Place a Seed on each of the 3 revealed Sheep tiles.
- Line up your 3 starting tiles in front of you, placing the Pig tile in the middle, then place the corresponding Vegetable token on the two Vegetables. These tiles form your Plot.
- The last Farmer to have seen a cow goes first and takes the First Farmer token and a Seed, then the next Farmer clockwise takes 2 Seeds, the third takes 3 Seeds, and the fourth takes 4 Seeds.
How the Game Unfolds
The game is played over a succession of turns.
Starting with the first Farmer and then proceeding clockwise, each Farmer performs one of the following two actions on their turn:
- Add a Field tile to your Plot (see below)
OR
- Deliver a Client (see below)
The game ends when one of the Field tile draw piles, or the Client card draw pile, is exhausted (see End of Game).
Add a Field Tile to Your Plot
To add a Field tile to your Plot, perform the following actions:
- Take a Field tile.
- Place the Field tile in your Plot.
- Harvest (if a Field tile is filled).
- Deliver your Animals (if you have 3 different Animals).
I. Take a Field Tile
To take a Field tile, choose one of the three columns on the board.
You may freely take the topmost tile of the column. If you want to take a tile below it, you must place a Seed on each of the tiles above the desired tile in the column.
NOTE: if a space is empty, ignore it.
If there are Seeds present on the Field tile you just took, add them to your personal reserve.
EXAMPLE: Cyrille wants to take the Cow tile with the two Carrots and the Corn, so he places a Seed on the Sheep tile above it. There is no tile on the middle space, so he can take the Cow tile without paying a second Seed.
If Cyrille had wanted to take the Cow tile from the left column, with an Eggplant and two Broccoli, he could have taken it for free, since there is no tile above it.
When a column is empty:
- Put a Sheep, Pig, and Cow tile back into each space of the column.
- Place a Seed from the reserve on the new Sheep tile.
IMPORTANT: do not refill the empty spaces of the other columns.
EXAMPLE: the left column is completely empty, so it is renewed with a Sheep tile, a Pig tile, and a Cow tile. A Seed is placed from the reserve on the Sheep tile.
II. Place the Field Tile in Your Plot
Place the chosen tile in your Plot, so that it is adjacent to one of the tiles already present.
Then take from the reserve the Vegetables shown on this new Field tile. You must place them on the free spaces of your OTHER Field tiles, provided that these tiles are:
- adjacent to the Field tile you just placed,
- and/or the same color as it.
NOTE: only one token may be placed per space, and the Vegetable must always match the space.
WARNING: if some of the Vegetables you just collected have no available space meeting the conditions, they cannot be placed and are lost. Put them back in the reserve.
EXAMPLE: Céline places her new Field tile in her Plot. She takes a Broccoli, a Carrot, and a Corn. She places the Broccoli on the blue tile to the left, which is adjacent, and the Corn on the brown tile, which is the same color. The Carrot is lost because there is no Carrot space on a brown tile or on an adjacent tile.
EXAMPLE: after placing his tile, Yoann places the Broccoli on the adjacent tile below and fills all the available spaces on that tile. He places the Carrot and the Broccoli in his Wheelbarrow and flips the tile to its Pasture face. Since it is a Pig tile, he places a Pig there.
III. Harvest (if a Field Tile is Filled)
If, once your Vegetables are placed, all the Vegetable spaces of one or more tile(s) are filled, you must Harvest.
Place all the Vegetables present on the tile into your Wheelbarrow and flip the tile to its Pasture face. Then take the corresponding Animal from the reserve and place it on the flipped tile.
NOTE: once a tile has been harvested, it will remain on its Pasture face until the end of the game.
IV. Deliver Your Animals (if you have 3 different Animals)
If you have 1 Cow, 1 Sheep, and 1 Pig in your Plot, put them back into the general reserve, then take a Medal worth 3.
NOTE: it is possible to deliver Animals multiple times in the same turn.
EXAMPLE: by placing the Eggplant on his Sheep tile, Cyrille triggers a harvest and places a Sheep. Now that he has a Cow, a Pig, and a Sheep, he spends them to earn a Medal worth 3.
In the ADVANCED MODE (page 7) the Animal delivery rule is different.
Deliver a Client
Spending Seeds
Spending Seeds lets you perform bonus actions. This is generally useful before delivering a Client, but it is also possible to do it when you take a Field tile. You may (as many times as you wish) spend:
- 3 Seeds to exchange a Vegetable from the reserve for one of your Wheelbarrow's Vegetables,
OR
- 5 Seeds to add a Vegetable of your choice from the reserve to your Wheelbarrow.
To deliver a Client using the Vegetables in your Wheelbarrow, perform the following actions:
I. Take a Client and a Medal
To take a Client:
- Choose a revealed Client card on the board and return the requested Vegetables from your Wheelbarrow to the reserve.
- Take the highest-value Medal below it, if any remain.
- Replace the card you took with the top card of the Client draw pile.
EXAMPLE: Floriane wants to deliver the blue Client worth 4, but she is missing a Corn. She pays 3 Seeds to exchange an Eggplant for a Corn. Then she spends two Corn, an Eggplant, and a Carrot to take the Client card and the Medal worth 3 below it. The Client taken is replaced by the top card of the deck.
II. Validate a Reputation Tile (if the conditions are met)
Check whether you meet the conditions of one or more Reputation tile(s). Reputation tiles require you to have two Clients of specific colors, as well as a Client with a specific number of prestige points.
NOTE: the same Client can fulfill both the color condition AND the prestige point condition.
When you validate a Reputation tile, flip it to its prestige points face.
If it was a Reputation tile from the board, take it in front of you and flip it to its prestige points face (no other Farmer will be able to validate it).
NOTE: you are the only one who can validate the Reputation tile in front of you, but the ones on the board are available to all Farmers.
WARNING: Reputation tiles are not replaced, and it is possible to validate several Reputation tiles in the same turn.
IMPORTANT: the Clients you own can allow you to validate several Reputation tiles.
EXAMPLE: Céline has in front of her a blue Client worth 3 points and a blue Client worth 4. She can therefore validate the objective present on the board that requires two blue Clients and a Client worth 3 prestige points. There are now only 4 Reputation tiles left available on the board.
End of Game
When a draw pile is empty (one of the three Field tile draw piles, or the Client card draw pile), finish the current turn so that everyone has played the same number of times (if the last player empties a draw pile, the game stops at the end of their turn).
I. Record Your Prestige Points on Your Score Sheet
- From your Client cards.
- From your Medals (3s and 1s).
- From your validated Reputation tiles.
II. You Also Earn
- 3 prestige points if you have 3 Clients of the same color.
- 3 prestige points if you have 3 Clients of the same value.
- 1 point per group of 3 Vegetables (different or not) in your Wheelbarrow.
Add up the prestige points on your score sheet (the last line is only used for the advanced mode; see Advanced Mode). The Farmer with the most prestige points wins the game; in case of a tie, whoever has the most Seeds wins. In case of a further tie, the Farmers share the victory.
EXAMPLE: at the end of the game Céline has:
- 4 Clients (5 + 5 + 3 + 6) = 19
- 3 of these Clients are blue = 3; only 2 Clients have the same value = 0
- 3 Medals worth 3 and one Medal worth 1 = 10
- 2 validated Reputation tiles = 10
- She has only 2 Vegetables left in her Wheelbarrow, but she has 5 Seeds that she spent on her last turn to obtain a third Vegetable = 1
Total: 43
Advanced Mode
For more thought and replayability, you can add the Livestock cards to your games.
Setup
Follow the usual setup, then deal one Livestock A card and one Livestock B card to each Farmer, along with the Farmer token corresponding to their starting tiles.
Line up the two Livestock cards so that they form a landscape, and place the Farmer token on its starting space.
Description of a Livestock Card
- The first column is the Farmer token's starting space.
WARNING: do not deliver Animals anymore once you have a Sheep, Cow, Pig trio!
- Progression: as soon as the two Animals required by the next column are present in your Plot, you must spend them immediately to advance your token there.
NOTE: you may pass through several columns in the same turn.
EXAMPLE: following a harvest, Yoann has two Sheep in his Plot, which he immediately puts back in the reserve to advance his Farmer token. The next column requires a Cow and a Pig; they are already present in his Plot, so he can advance his Farmer token again.
- At any time during your turn, in addition to your action, you may perform a power available on the column where your Farmer token is located, or on one of the previous columns.
Each power can be used only once per game.
To use a power, place one of your Seeds on the relevant column.
NOTE: several powers can be used in the same turn.
EXAMPLE: Floriane has 2 powers available; she places a Seed on the column to reserve a Client. She takes the desired card (but not the Medal) and places it face down in front of her. She is now the only one who can deliver this Client (during her Deliver a Client action on one of her upcoming turns).
- Once the last column is reached, as in the standard rules, as soon as three different Animals (Sheep, Cow, Pig) are present on your Plot, spend them to obtain a Medal worth 3.
It is possible to activate the last column as many times as you meet the condition, and it does not cost a Seed.
End of Game
Follow the same steps as for a standard game, but add 2 prestige points per tile of your largest rectangle of empty Pasture (without Animals).
EXAMPLE: the largest empty Pasture rectangle in Céline's Plot is made up of 6 tiles, which give her 12 additional prestige points.
EXAMPLE: in this configuration, the largest empty Pasture rectangle is 4 tiles, which give 8 prestige points.
Powers
- Take the top tile of the corresponding draw pile and place it Vegetable-face up in your Plot (this does not let you take new Vegetables).
- Reserve one of the visible Clients on the board, place it face down in front of you; you are now the only one able to fulfill it during a Deliver action. This power never lets you take a Medal (replace the Client with the top card of the draw pile).
- Exchange an Animal on one of your Pastures for another Animal of your choice from the reserve (even if the Animal does not match the destination tile).
- Move an Animal in your Plot to any other empty Pasture-face tile (even if the Animal does not match the destination tile).
- Exchange a Vegetable from your Wheelbarrow for another Vegetable from the reserve.
- Take a Vegetable of your choice from the reserve and place it in your Wheelbarrow.
- Take a Vegetable from one of your Field tiles and place it in your Wheelbarrow.
- Move a Vegetable from one of your Field tiles to an available (and matching) Vegetable space on another of your Field tiles (this may trigger a Harvest).
- Place a Vegetable of your choice from the reserve on one of your Field tiles (a Vegetable must always be placed on a space of the matching type; this may trigger a Harvest).
- Move one of your Field tiles (Pasture face or Vegetable face) and place it adjacent to another of your Field tiles. If an Animal or Vegetables are on the tile, move them with it. Once the move is complete, your Plot must not be split into several parts.
