Components
The game uses 94 blocks:
- Digit blocks 0 to 9, 6 of each digit (60 blocks).
- Operator blocks: "-" (5), "+" (5), ":" (5), "×" (5), and "=" (14), total 34 blocks.
Preparation
- Place one "=" block in the middle of the table.
- Mix the remaining 93 blocks and place this stock face-down.
- Make 2 teams of 1 or more players.
- Each team takes 8 blocks at random. Place these standing, so only your team sees their values.
- Both teams show their lowest-value digit (0-9). The team with the lowest digit starts. If the lowest digits are equal, the second-lowest digits determine the start team, and so on.
Summary
Teams take alternate turns to place a valid sum on the table.
Placing a Sum
- Each new sum consists of 1 up to 8 blocks of your own plus 1 or more blocks already on the table. So in the first sum you must use the "=" block on the table.
- The blocks in a sum must form a horizontal or vertical chain.
- Place all blocks of all sums in the same reading direction. Each sum you read from left to right or from top to bottom.
- Sums can be parallel adjacent. The 2 vertical sums in the example are partly adjacent: "9-6=3" and "2×4=8". The "3" and the "×" of these sums are connected. Later those blocks can be part of a horizontal sum.
- The space before the first and after the last block of a sum must be empty, and remain empty for the whole game. (The rulebook marks these spaces with 6 grey dots.)
- The blocks in placed sums will never get removed or rearranged.
Allowed Sums
- There must be one "=" in each sum.
- In front of the "=" there must be at least two numbers and one operator. Behind the "=" there must be one number and no operators.
- Numbers consist of one or more digits (blocks).
- A number consisting of two or more digits cannot start with a "0".
- There can be several operators in a sum, each between 2 numbers.
- Multiplying "×" and dividing ":" go first, before adding "+" and subtracting "-". (The ":" block is also known as "-" or "/".)
- Multiplying and dividing are executed in reading order, and adding and subtracting too.
Score
For each sum you place, you get points equal to all digits (0-9) of the sum added up. Digits on your placed blocks count, as well as on blocks which were already on the table. There are no restrictions for connected blocks of parallel sums.
- Example: a sum brings 18 points (2+7+9).
- Example: "6 5 : 2 × 0 = 0" brings 13 points (6+5+2+0+0).
- Example: "5 + 7 4 = 7 9" brings 32 points (5+7+4+7+9).
Use pen and paper to note the scores.
No New Sum?
Instead of placing a sum you can remove 1 or more of your own blocks. These blocks go out of the game and their values stay secret to the other team.
Take New Blocks
After making a sum OR removing some of your blocks, you take new blocks from the stock, to make sure that you have a total of 8 blocks (or less if the stock gets empty). Now the other team may place a sum.
End of the Game
The game ends when both teams don't make a sum while the stock of blocks is empty. The team with the most points wins.
