Set Up
Start player: whoever most recently had fruit chooses who goes first.
- Sort the Fruit-O-Saur Deck by number and place within reach of all players to form The Valley.
- Shuffle the Fruit cards and form the Fruit Deck.
- Draw 5 Fruit cards to place face-up above the Fruit Deck to start each column of the Play Area.
- Draw 5 Fruit cards to place face-up below the Fruit Deck to form the Market Row.
- The start player deals 5 cards to each player to form their hand of cards.
Tip: keep your hand of cards hidden from other players at all times!
(Set-up diagram: the Play Area's starting columns are laid out in a row above the Fruit Deck, the Market Row sits below it, The Valley is laid out along the bottom, and each player's hand is a face-down stack around the table.)
Taking a Turn
On your turn, choose 1 action: Swap or Play.
Swap: Select 1 to 5 cards from your hand, swap them with the cards in the market row. Your turn is over, and play moves to the player on your left.
Play: Play any number of cards from your hand onto a single column in the Play Area. Each card you play must match the Fruit or the number of the card before it in the column.
a) Gather Fruit: if the number on the last card you played matches the total number of cards in the column, you Gather Fruit.
i) Take all cards in the column. Keep them face down near you in your score pile. You may look through the score pile at any time.
ii) Draw 1 card from the Fruit Deck, and place it face-up to start the new column.
iii) One at a time, refill your hand back to 5 cards from the Market Row or Fruit Deck. You may take them in any order.
Example: on the Pineapple 2, Casey played a Strawberry 2, Fruit Salad, and Blueberries 4. As the final card played is a 4 and there are 4 cards in the column, they Gather Fruit.
At the end of your turn, refill any empty spots in the Market Row with face-up cards from the Fruit Deck. Once the Market Row is refilled, your turn is over and play moves to the player on your left.
b) Attract Fruit-O-Saurs: if the number on the last card you played does not match the total number of cards in the column, you Attract Fruit-O-Saurs.
i) From The Valley, take Fruit-O-Saur cards whose total equals the number of cards you played. They are placed with your score pile, but are always public knowledge, so anyone can ask you what ones you have attracted.
ii) One at a time, refill your hand back to 5 cards from the market row or Fruit Deck. You may take them in any order.
Example: on the Blueberries 7, Casey played a Blueberries 4, Apricots 4, and Strawberry 4. As the final card played is a 4 and there are 5 cards in the column, they Attract Fruit-O-Saurs.
As Casey played 3 Fruit cards, they choose to take: 1 Tyrannostrawbrus Rex and 2 Tripearatops.
At the end of your turn, refill any empty spots in the Market Row with face-up cards from the Fruit Deck. Once the Market Row is refilled, your turn is over and play moves to the player on your left.
Tip: in Sugarrr! being able to chain cards together leads to better turns, so drawing random cards from the Fruit Deck is often less helpful than choosing wisely from the market row.
Column Height
If a column has 10 or more cards in it at the end of a player's turn, the whole column is removed from the game. Draw 1 card from the Fruit Deck, and place it face-up to start the new column.
Fruit Salad
These cards can be played on any Fruit card, and any Fruit card can be played on them. They have no number, so cannot be used as the last card to Gather Fruit.
Game End
When the Fruit Deck runs out, the Final Round is triggered.
All players take one more turn to either:
- Swap (if cards are available in the Market Row)
- Play (Gather Fruit or Attract Fruit-O-Saurs)
- Pass (do nothing, this is a new action only available for the Final Round)
After your final turn, add any cards in your hand to your score pile.
Once everyone has completed their final turn, begin scoring.
Scoring
You can now calculate your final score.
- Sort each type of Fruit into piles.
- Score points for each Fruit your Fruit-O-Saurs eat. Each Fruit card is worth the total number of points for the matching Fruit-O-Saur.
- Continue this process for each Fruit-O-Saur type that you have collected, adding the points as you go.
- Add 1 point for each Fruit Salad card you have collected.
- The player with the most points is the Win-O-Saur! In the event of a tie, the tied player with the most Fruit-O-Saur cards claims the title! If they are still tied, they are each crowned Win-O-Saurs!
Note: the number printed on the Fruit cards has no effect when scoring. Each card is 1 of that fruit eaten by the Fruit-O-Saur.
- Fruit-O-Saurs with no Fruit cards to eat score zero points.
- Fruit cards not eaten by Fruit-O-Saurs score zero points.
- Fruit Salad cards are special and score 1 point per card.
Scoring Example
The example's diagram shows Casey's cards in columns, with the points for each column printed beneath it: 54, 27, 15, 0, 3, 0 and 3 (total 102).
Casey has collected the 1, 3 and 5 Tyrannostrawbrus Rex cards, making each Strawberry card worth 9 points. They have also collected 6 Strawberry cards, giving them 54 points (1 + 3 + 5 = 9, then, 9 x 6 = 54). Continuing along, Casey's total score would be 102.
