Game Materials
- 18 wooden pieces (beehives): 3 each in 6 different colors and sizes
- 1 Benni the bear figure
- 1 special die (with the numbers 0, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3)
- 12 meadow spaces (2 each in 6 colors)
- 2 trays (one square and one round)
- 1 set of game rules
Before the first play, the meadow spaces and trays must be punched carefully out of the framework. The surplus square and round trays are replacements. They are not needed for play.
Game Preparation
- The meadow spaces are shuffled and laid out flower side up in a circle. However, no two spaces with flowers of the same color should be placed next to each other. In addition, you can lay the spaces farther apart to make gameplay more difficult.
- The 18 beehives are sorted according to color and put into the center of the circle of meadow spaces.
- Benni the bear is placed on any meadow space.
- The players decide whether they want to play with the square or the round tray. Since the round tray is wobblier, the game is more difficult when using it. Once the players have decided which tray to use, they put it between the outstretched arms of Benni the bear.
- Now a beehive is placed on Benni's tray. The beehive must be the same color as the flowers of the meadow space Benni is on.
- The die is placed next to Benni the bear.
- Players decide who goes first.
Game Process
Turns take place in two parts:
1. Benni Moves
When it is a player's turn, he rolls the die. He must then move Benni the bear exactly the number of meadow spaces shown on the die in a clockwise direction.
He must lift and move Benni with one hand. In doing so, no beehive may fall down. The player may not hold or support the tray or the beehives while moving.
If a player rolls a 0 (zero), Benni stays on the space where he is standing.
2. Beehive Loading
Now the player must load a beehive on Benni, even if he rolled a 0 (zero). He takes a beehive the same color as the flowers of the meadow space Benni currently occupies and sets it on top of the highest beehive on Benni's tray. Thus, a tower of beehives develops over time.
If a player must load a beehive of a color that has been used up (there are none left in the center of the table), he may choose a beehive of a different color and load it onto Benni's stack. Also, when loading, you are not allowed to hold or support the tray or beehives.
After loading, the player passes the die to the player on his left.
Benni Loses Beehives
If a beehive falls when a player is moving or loading Benni, he still moves Benni to the space determined by the die roll. As a penalty, the player takes any meadow space (but not the one Benni is standing on). The player puts the space face down in front of himself.
All of the beehives on Benni's tray and the beehives that fell are placed once again in the center of the circle. As at the beginning of the game, a beehive of the color of the meadow space on which Benni is standing is placed on his tray.
Game End
The game ends if a player must pick a second meadow space. This player unfortunately loses the game.
The winner of the game is the player with the fewest meadow spaces in front of him. If several players have the same number of meadow spaces, they win together.
