  • 31 dice
  • 1 box containing a dice Arena
  • 1 foam mat

Game Idea

Each player tries to change the dice in the arena to show the same numbers by skillfully throwing his dice into the arena. Any dice showing the same numbers are taken back, but all other dice stay in the arena for the next player. The last player with dice remaining wins.

Setup

Place the box with the dice arena in the middle of the table with the foam mat at the bottom.

Each player receives dice as their stock (2 players = 9, 3 players = 8, 4 players = 7, 5 players = 6) and places one die into the arena showing any numbered face (not the X).

Playing the Game

The eldest player starts and turns proceed clockwise, until the winner is decided.

On your turn you must throw one die into the arena.

Same numbers on some dice

After you throw a die, if two or more dice in the arena show the same number of pips, you take all these dice out of the arena and place them in your stock. This ends your turn (whether you like it or not) and then the next player takes their turn. You may take differently numbered groups of dice, provided there are at least two dice showing that number.

Different numbers on all dice

If all the dice in the arena show a different number of pips after your turn, you may either continue by throwing another die into the arena or voluntarily end your turn by telling your left neighbor.

Play is identical after a repeated throw: either remove all the dice with the same number of pips and end your turn, or, if all the dice are different, either throw another die into the arena or voluntarily end your turn.

Note! When making a throw, you should try to re-roll dice already in the arena so they change number and perhaps show the same number as another die. To help with this, before each of your throws you may rearrange the dice already in the arena, provided you don't change the number that is face up. You also cannot stack the dice or place them so they are not lying flat.

That was an X!

If, after throwing, one or more dice in the arena show the X face up, you must immediately remove it (or them) and place them next to the box. They are out of the game. This removal does not automatically end your turn (only removing dice with the same number of pips does that).

Example of a turn

The arena has dice showing 2, 3 and 5. You first group these in the center of the arena, then throw your new die against this group, which rolls to show one each of 2, 3, 4 and 6. You choose (wisely) to once again throw in a die, but beforehand you group the four dice. This time you'll have more luck: the five dice now show two groups of 3, two 5's and a 6. You take four dice (with two 3s and two 5s) out of the arena and put them in your stock. Your turn has finished. For your left neighbor there is now only a single die (with a 6) left in the arena…

That was probably niX!

Any dice which fly out of the arena (or never land in it) must be removed and placed next to the box. This also applies to dice that landed on top of the arena. This unfortunate event does not automatically end your turn.

The big hit!

If the dice arena is empty after your throw — either by the removal of the same-numbered dice, and/or the removal of all X dice — the next player must throw all the dice from his stock into the arena at once. Hopefully they have good luck and throw dice with the same number so they can then take them out again…

By the way!

Should any die not be lying flat (leaning in the arena so that you cannot say exactly what number of pips it shows), roll it again on the table and put it back into the arena showing its new face (or next to the box, if it shows the X).

Game End

Once a player's turn ends with no more dice in his stock, he is out of the game. The last remaining player with dice is the winner.

Alternative Game End

You can also play multiple rounds so that each player starts the same number of games. In this case, players receive a number of points equal to the number of players still left in the game when they are eliminated (and the winner receives zero points). At the end of all the rounds, the player with the fewest points is the winner (or, if there is a draw, there are multiple winners).
