Setup

Shuffle together the 4 Relic cards and place them in a face up pile in the middle of the play area. Place the 2 Bonus cards to the side of the play area. Give each player a Wealth card. Shuffle together the 80 Kingdom cards and deal 5 to each player. Players determine who will take the first turn using whatever method they see fit, and the game begins.

The Cards

Kingdom Cards

There are 80 Kingdom cards. The front of each Kingdom card represents a Structure, and also contains important information: the Structure's Name, its Point Value, its Relic Affiliation, its Ability, and its Power Value.

Point Value: This is how many points the Structure is worth at the end of the game.

Relic Affiliation: This dictates the card's Relic Affiliation. Relic Affiliation plays an important role in several aspects of the game. Each building bears an Icon representing 1 of the 4 Relics.

Ability: This is the Structure's Ability. Each Structure has an ability. Abilities in regular text are passive, and occur when certain things happen. Abilities with italicized text are Spell abilities, and offer the player a 1 time ability if the card is discarded from his hand.

Power Value: This is the card's Power Value. This is used in determining who is awarded a Relic and who has the most Wealth at the end of the game.

City Cards

The back of each Kingdom Card is a City Card. City cards are Developed from a special type of Structure card called Terrain cards.

Each City card has a Point Value of 3. Additionally, each City Card that a player has in his Kingdom adds plus 1 to his Wealth Value at the end of the game and plus 1 to his Influence Value when a Relic is awarded.

Relic Cards

There are 4 Relic Cards that the players are attempting to gain control of. The top face up is the Current Relic. Each Relic has a Bonus Influence Icon. Influence cards that are played on the Relic with a Relic Affiliation that matches the Bonus have their Power Value increased by 1.

Wealth Cards

Each player has a Wealth card. When a player chooses a Wealth Action, the card is placed beneath this card.

Bonus Cards

There are 2 Bonus Cards that are awarded at the end of the game.

The Prosperity Card is awarded to the player with the most Wealth at the end of the game.

The Largest Kingdom Card is awarded to the player with the most Structures in his Kingdom at the end of the game.

Playing the Game

Stone & Relic is played over a series of turns. The Start Player takes the first turn, then each player, in clockwise order, takes a turn. Players continue taking turns in clockwise order until 1 of the end game conditions are met. Each player receives 1 additional turn and the game ends. Bonus cards are awarded, and scores are tallied.

A Player's First Turn

At the beginning of each player's First Turn, he selects 1 Structure from his hand and places it face up in his play area, beginning his Kingdom, and 1 card from his hand to place face down under his Wealth card.

Player Turns

Each player's turn is broken into 3 steps: the Resource Step, the Expansion Step, and the Relic Step. Once a player has completed all 3 steps, in this order, his turn ends. The player to his left takes the next turn.

Resource Step

During the Resource Step, the player draws cards and gains Actions to use during his Expansion Step.

The player draws 2 cards. He then draws 1 additional card if any player has more Structures in his Kingdom than he has.

The player gains 1 Action to use during his Expansion Step. He may choose to discard 1 card from his hand to gain 1 additional Action.

Expansion Step

During the Expansion Step, the player uses the Actions he received during his Resource Step. He has 4 different options for using his Actions. He may use: a Build Action, a Spell Action, a Wealth Action, or an Influence Action.

In the event that the player has more than 1 action to use, he may use his actions in any order or any combination as he wishes.

Build Action

When the player chooses to use a Build Action, he places a Structure from his hand into his Kingdom, next to at least 1 other Structure in his Kingdom.

Some Structures offer a bonus ability when another Structure is built next to it, these structures are called Monuments. These abilities are not optional. Through clever play, it is possible that a Structure is built next to 2 or more Monuments. In the event that this occurs, the player chooses the order in which the abilities occur. However, no Structure has an ability that happens when it is built.

Jon uses a Build action to place The Sprawl Structure in his Kingdom next to a Monument, the Black Font. The Black Font allows the player draw 1 card when it is built next to, so Jon draws 1 card.

The player may also use a Build Action to Develop a Terrain Structure card in his Kingdom. To do this, he simply flips the card face down, turning it into a City card.

Note that when a Terrain card is Developed, it loses all characteristics of its Structure side. It is simply a City card for the remainder of the game (unless it is somehow flipped face up).

Spell Action

A player may use a Spell Action to discard a Structure card from his hand to use its Spell ability. Not all Structures have a Spell Ability. Spell Abilities are indicated by italicized ability text.

A Spell's Ability must be completed in the order listed on the card.

Jeb uses a Spell Action to discard a Hall of Dread from his hand to use its ability.

Wealth Action

When the player uses a Wealth Action, he chooses a card from his hand and places it face down beneath his Wealth Card. At the end of the game, the player with the most Power beneath his Wealth card gains bonus points.

There is no limit to the number of cards that a player can have beneath his Wealth card.

Influence Action

When a player uses an Influence Action, he places 1 card from his hand face down on his side of the Current Relic.

There is no limit to the number of face down Influence cards a player can have.

After the player has taken any Actions that he wishes to take, he discards cards from his hand until he has 4 cards in his hand.

Relic Step

During the Relic Step, if there are 7 or fewer face down Influence cards, amongst all players, the player draws 1 card and places 1 card from his hand face down on his side of the current Relic. Then, his turn ends and the next player takes a turn.

If there are 8 or more face down Influence cards, amongst all players, the current Relic is Awarded.

At the end of the Relic Step, all cards in the discard pile are shuffled into the deck.

Awarding Relics

When a Relic is Awarded, each player reveals his face down Influence cards.

Each player adds together the Power Value of his Influence cards. Any Influence card that bears the Relic Affiliation Icon of the Current Relic's Bonus Influence Icon has its Power Value increased by 1. The player adds 1 to his combined Power Value for each City in his Kingdom.

The player with the highest combined Power Value takes the Current Relic and places it face down in his play area. All revealed Influence cards are moved to the discard pile.

In the event of a tie, the player with the most Cities in his Kingdom wins the tie. If a tie still exists, the current relic is moved to the side of the play area, and no player receives the Relic.

If there are no Relics remaining, The Relic step is skipped.

The Skystone Coil is awarded. Britt has 2 Influence cards. One of her Influence cards is worth 1 additional point because it matches the current Relic's Bonus Icon. She also has 2 Cities in her Kingdom. Her total Power is 8. Jeb also has 8 Power. However, Jeb only has 1 City in his Kingdom, so Britt wins the tie. She moves the Relic to her play area.

Ending the Game

At the end of a player's turn, if there are no cards left in the deck or discard pile, or there are a certain number of Cards, or more, in the player's Kingdom (in a 2 Player Game: 10 Cards, in a 3 Player Game: 9 Cards, in a 4 Player Game: 8 Cards), the game is getting ready to end. Each player receives 1 additional turn, and the game ends.

After each player receives an additional turn, if there is a Current Relic remaining, each player may place 1 card from his hand into his Influence, and the Current Relic is awarded. Any remaining Relics are not awarded.

Scoring

Each player earns points equal to the combined Point Value of the Structures in his Kingdom.

Then, each player counts the number of Structures in his Kingdom. The player with the most Structures gains the Largest Kingdom Bonus card, worth 5 points. In the event of a tie, no player receives the Largest Kingdom.

Each player reveals his face down Wealth cards. Each player combines the Power Value of his Wealth Cards, and adds 1 to the value for each City in his Kingdom. The player with the highest Power Value earns the Prosperity Bonus card, worth 5 points. In the event of a tie, no player receives the Prosperity bonus.

Each player earns 5 points for each Relic card he has.

The player with the highest total score wins.

Scout scores 14 points for the Point Value of the Structures in her Kingdom. She has 9 Structures in her Kingdom (the Searing Plain is a Terrain, and counts as 2 Structures). She ties with Jeb, so no player receives the Largest Kingdom Bonus. The power of her Wealth is 8 (6 from her Wealth cards plus 2 from her Cities). She earns the Prosperity Bonus, worth 7 Points. She has 2 Relics, worth 10 points. Her total Score is 31.
