Components

  • 24 "Bonus" cards
  • 82 "Condition" cards (original)
  • 7 "Condition" cards (science)
  • 7 "Condition" cards (magic)

Sample card faces shown in the component illustration:

  • Original set: Stretching Limbs, Popcorn, Illusionist, Become an Experienced Surfer
  • Science set: Lightsaber, Truth Serum, Warp-Speed Button
  • Magic set: Flying Carpet, Magic Mirror, Cupid's Bow

Goal of the Game

Get more cards than anyone else by spoiling other players' stipulations. You will receive cards for the most interesting stipulations to the conditions that the judges announce during the game.

Setup

Each player takes a pencil and several sheets of paper. Shuffle the "Condition" and "Bonus" decks separately and place them face down in the center of the table. If you wish, you may add the "Condition" cards from the "Science" and/or "Magic" expansions to the "Condition" deck (they are distinguished by their face side).

Playing the Game

Choose the player who will be the judge in the first round. The judge takes the top card from the "Condition" deck, chooses one of the options written on it, and reads it aloud. After that, in secret from the other participants, all players write a stipulation for the announced condition.

A stipulation must meet the following requirements:

  • Make the condition less pleasant.
  • Fit the condition.
  • Differ from stipulations written by players in previous rounds.

The judge may ignore any stipulations that do not meet these requirements.

Example

The judge drew a card with the options Fly, Mint Candies, Plumber and Became Famous, and the categories Superpower, Infinite Supply, Job and Dream Come True.

The judge announced: "I can fly!" The other players may write one of the following stipulations: "Only down", "With non-folding and non-removable 15-metre wings", "Can't land without breaking bones", and so on.

Tips for the Judge

When announcing a condition, start it as follows:

  • Superpower: "I can control time" or "I have magical abilities."
  • Infinite Supply: "Access to an infinite supply of piñatas" or "I have the right to unlimited hairdresser services."
  • Job: "I am a missionary" or "I work as a teacher."
  • Dream Come True: "I live far from civilization" or "I have fulfilled my dream of buying a jet pack."

After all stipulations have been written, the judge turns over the top card of the "Bonus" deck. At this time, the player to the judge's right collects the sheets with the stipulations. This same player reads the stipulations from the sheets aloud without revealing their authors. The judge must choose one of the stipulations that they consider the most interesting. The judge must also choose the stipulation that best fits the "Bonus" card. After this, the players reveal who wrote each stipulation. The "Condition" and "Bonus" cards go to the authors of the winning (judge-selected) stipulations.

A player may receive two cards in one round.

The next round begins with the player to the left of the judge becoming the new judge. The new judge takes the top card from the "Condition" deck and chooses and reads aloud one of the conditions.

The game lasts until each player has been the judge twice. At the end of the game, the player who has received the most cards wins!

Variants

Final Argument

Each player reads aloud the stipulation they wrote and may argue why their stipulation deserves to win.

Mix

The judge chooses two conditions and reads them together (for example: "I am a teacher with extendable claws").

But I Don't Have That Many Friends

Each player may write two stipulations. This variant is well suited to a group of four participants.

Immortality

Stipulations cannot lead to death.

Timer

Use this if players take too long to come up with and write their stipulations. If a player does not manage to write a stipulation before time runs out, they do not take part in that round.
